World/Story: An Exceptional Journey

--

“I need a guardian,” Braska exhaled, speaking suddenly as he leaned backward, straightening his body from his position of prayer at the base of Lord Gandof’s statue.

“You can not be serious!” Auron could barely contain his volume, his hands falling to his lap, catching the gazes of several priests that sent them both restrained glares at his outburst. “You can not be thinking about taking the pilgrimage!” He started again, his voice lower as he leaned toward his friend who was still kneeling next to him.

Braska raised his arms as he inhaled, closing his eyes as he let his body easily slip back into the motion of his continued prayer. “Of course I am.” Braska’s voice was softer, expelling a calmness that Auron suddenly find absent in himself at that moment as he turned concerned eyes to Braska.

Auron could only watch the summoner, the knot of uncertainty twisting in his gut, as he exhaled a breath he had not realized he was holding in, “What about Yuna?”

After a moment, Braska opened his eyes, his entire aura reposeful, only making the knot in Auron’s gut tighten. Braska stood, his knees aching from the kneeling position. He turned his gaze to the warrior monk beside him, his stare full of silent determination.

“She is strong,” Braska grabbed his staff and ran a hand down his robes, knocking some of the dust from the frabic, while Auron watched on from his knelt position. The summoner gave his friend a strained smile, the only indication of the uneasiness of his own decision, “like her mother.”

With that, Braska nodded his head in a bid to leave, leaving Auron staring after him, almost as if he, himself, had become a statue with the other High Summoners protracted inside the temple hall.
