It was late and Mink had taken to his usual spot on the couch, near the fireplace so that he could read his novel. Aoba watched him from his chair across from him, eyes trained on his every move as he casually sipped his coco.
Mink glanced up, catching Aoba’s pale gaze on him, at once he adverted his eyes, a flush tinting his cheeks. He went back to reading quietly, pushing his glasses back up the brim of his nose, crossing his legs in the process. After some time, Aoba's gaze returned to Mink, drinking in the sight of all the masculinity and underlining raw power Aoba knew Mink held back.
Chewing on his lip, Aoba tugged on the plaited hair that draped down his shoulder, the feathers decorating the end still causing him to pause with hidden glee.
It was a first step in their life together, if one would call it that.
“It’s getting late,” Mink said, drawing Aoba quickly out of his thoughts, turning to look at him.
A golden gaze leveled on him as Mink set his book aside on the coffee table, standing easily. Aoba nodded, swallowing thickly, sudden apprehension catching him off-guard.
Maybe he could take another step, if Mink allowed him.
“You should head to bed soon,” Mink turned and headed toward his bedroom, leaving Aoba alone in the tiny living room, his only company the fire that had settled into a slow burn.
“Ah, Mink?” Aoba unfolded his legs from his chair as he stood, stopping Mink before he could disappear inside his bedroom. Mink didn’t say anything, yet he paused, giving Aoba a look for him to continue at which, Aoba hurriedly spoke, “Is it alright… if we share the same bed tonight?”
He tugged nervously on the hem of the sweater Mink had given him earlier, a gift, yet he knew Mink didn’t want him to freeze to death at night, due to the low temperatures Aoba probably wasn’t use to.
“Alright,” he said flatly, leaving Aoba alone, but this time he didn’t shut his bedroom door.
His heart pounded in his chest as he crossed the living room, the blush quite evident on his cheeks, “Thank you!”
“Hurry up,” Mink mumbled.
Aoba followed him quickly, “I’m coming.”
Another step forward on a long road to their future.
Aoba was willing to travel it, hopefully Mink would be by his side as well.
