I won Nanowrimo! 50,198 words. It's the second time I've gotten to 50,000 words - I did it with a fanfic two years ago - but this feels like the first time I've really done it, because I did original fic. (It started out using fannish characters with the names changed, but they developed personalities of their own over the course of 50,000 words.)
Even though I've hit 50,000, I'm not done with the story - there's probably another 50-100k words to go. But then, in what I've written there's a whole lot that can be cut out, too. So I'm planning to continue the story, although at a more moderate pace.
The other thing that's been really good about this month is that it reminded me that I need to be creative. I'd gotten away from writing almost entirely in the last year (since last year's Nano attempt went bust at around 9,000 words), but I need to write - it does good things for my brain. I'm going to take a few days off from writing, since work's going to be extremely busy this week, but I'm going to keep setting a writing goal for myself - at least on weekends.
Congratulations to everyone who's finished, and good luck to those who are still plugging away!
writing,
