Last month there was a discussion on slashiest star trek novels. I dutifully read all the recommendations and purchased several of the books. Today I picked a real gem that I don't remember being on the list . Sondra Marshak and Myrna Culbreath have given us the slash greats Price of the Phoenix and Fate of the Phoenix. Yes, I just ordered TMP novel today on Amazon, used published 1978. Can't wait to read it.
I have to admit, I wasn't always a K/S slasher. I came to ST at the age of 11 in 1982. Not really aware of sexuality at the time. When I first became aware that some people slashed K/S, I was like huh? Great friends ya, but slashy? Then I read about Roddenberry's creation of the word Th'y'la, and I was completely sold. I mean, he created these characters and he INVENTED the word AND its DEFINITION. He could've easily left it at friend/brother, and the community would have a beautiful close platonic relationship. My closest relationship in my life is that which I've had with my bff for the past 22 years. She will most likely remain closer to me than any romantic relationship I ever have. We are friend/sisters but we are not lovers. Th'y'la sorta defines us, but we don't need that extra definition. Roddenberry, creator of the word, added lover. HE INVENTED THE WORD TO DEFINE K/S! It is not used to define any other relationships (that I am aware). He needed to add lover to the definition for it to completely fit them!

Steps down and hands TIDE its box.

That word seals it for me too. I mean, it's not like the word already existed and he thought 'Oh yeah, that sorta fits Kirk & Spock, I mean except for the lover bit, but whatever'. He made it mean lover. Why on Earth would he do that unless he wanted us to think of them in that way?
