beauty.

i had the most beautiful & dramatic week of my life.....this might take a while.

see, it all started the friday before last - my first day of vacation (i needed it so effing bad). josh and i drove 5 hours to poughkeepsie to hang out with our friend chris. he drives us over to his friends house, where we played drinking games all night, and got to know a few more people (i love meeting new people, especially ones who "might" turn into good friends). 4am rolls around, and josh and i realize we still need to find a hotel and get our asses in bed before heading out to manhattan the next day. so chris drives us home, and on our way to this kick ass diner, we get pulled over. chris ends up getting ARRESTED for drunk driving...eek. and since i cant drive stick shift (im really good at stalling), josh and i have to be driven back to my car in a cop car, and then drive all over this town we've never been to, looking for the police station. 3 hours later, we finally find a hotel and get some sleep for our next little excursion.

whats this little excursion, you ask? phantom of the motherfuckin opera (!). so we dress up - josh is wearing a hot ass black and white suit with a red tie, and i wear this long black classy dress, tight on the bodice, and flows out, with rhinestones lining the POCKETS - i know, i know it sounds weird, but trust me, it was really fucking cute. so we drive to the city, all classy, and i realize - i forgot my damn heels. since we hit traffic, we dont have enough time to stop by a shoe store, so i improvise and wear my converse & a green cardigan - red, white & green....ooooh we're christmassy! and five minutes before the opera starts, we find a parking lot, and RUN to the majestic. this is one of the cutest fucking scenes of my entire life - running through new york city, hand in hand with my boyfriend, dressed up, and laughing the entire time there. so many people were staring at us, it was like, for a minute, the world revolved around US. when we finally make it to the theatre, it turns out NO ONE is dressed up. motherfuckers. so, instead of letting it ruin our day, we pretend we're important shit, right up next to the stage, muahahaha. we talk with snooty accents the rest of the time there, cause we're cool like that.

this is just the beginnning of our day, mind you. so after the opera, we head to our hotel, which we reserved prior to our trip. only, its the shittiest hotel room EVER! its the size of a sardine can, has NO tv, no phone to call the front desk, no heater, and no fucking bathroom. oh, wait- let me correct myself - there WAS a bathroom - one on each floor! wee. since we already paid for it, and only need the room for a couple hours, we change and walk around the city for hours, shopping, stopping in bars, and caught a show at the improv. after this, we're too tired to walk the 5 miles to our next destination, so we hail a cab.

and almost die. like a billion fucking times. our cabbie SPED UP to pedestrians, didnt slow down when he almost hit them, only honked on the horn and fled by. he squeezes in between a bus and a parked car, and cuts off the bus, barely missing being rear ended by another bus turning into traffic.

and finally we get there - the midnight PIXIES show at hammerstein ballroom - which, supposedly, is their last US show. this is the entire reason i wanted to drive 7 hours to new york city, and im so effing stoked, im practically jumping up and down. only, when we get to the door, it turns out one of our tickets somehow got water on it, and dried the tickets together. which meant, ripped apart, the barcode of one ticket came off onto the other, and was barely visible, therefore - WE COULDNT GET IN. what the fuck?! nooooooooooooooooooooo. twenty minutes later, as im getting the nerve to just sell the damn ticket and leave, josh figures out that if you wet the ticket, the barcode & numbers come up just enough to read &we can get in! and here is the second amazing scene of my life that day- actually jumping up and down outside the venue, hugging and kissing my amazing magician of a boyfriend, and both of us running to the door, reading off the numbers, being let in, and my shrieks of joy inside.

the show was insane. my entire day was insane, and completley BEAUTIFUL.

a few days later, after celebrating christmas early with my family, josh and i (and our dogs and cats) drive 8 hours to ohio, which turns into 11 hours because of this incredible snowstorm- i tried taking pictures and the entire pictures kept coming out completely white - thats how bad it was, just white, everywhere. we saw three flipped cars off the freeway, a big rig split in half, and a car immersed in flames. at first, all i could think about was that it was christmas eve, and how awful it would be to get in an accident. somehow that turned into this immense heart-warming feeling that it WAS christmas eve, and WE were still alive, and still on our way to meet joshs family, and that us making it there was a miracle in itself. a MIRACLE.

...i cant stop thinking about how beautiful life is. even when shit happens, ive been finding the beauty in it. its alwyas there, somewhere.
