Noonish Rant

I'm not one to normally post about faith or religion. Faith isn't so bad to hear about. People of faith stay out of the political realm. People of religion want to take over the world. That's the way that I see it. I've had this enigma lately. I believe that there is a God because I've had prayers answered when I was really in trouble and there was no one to turn to because no one else cared. I've had prayers answered when I mentioned "in the name of Jesus". I made the assumption that perhaps Christ did exist based on His response.

Here's where the puzzle lies. I hate Christians. I can't stand being around them because they're notorious for taking the most ridiculous bullshit off of television, movies, radio, sermons, the bible, gossip, or forwarded emails as the truth. Anyone who claims to be a conservative is right irregardless of whether that person is an idiot or just failed to do any research and is just spouting more bullshit. They look at anyone who comes to their church as godless heathens even those who attended before. They ignore anything that you may say in your defense and make the same assumptions which are also based on your appearance.

I also don't see the sense of giving money to a church when the pastor lives in a nicer house and drives a newer car than I do. I have bills and I don't see the sense of squeezing money from my wallet to make them any more comfortable than they are. I am not buying the "well, your tithes are going towards God's work and it is required of you based on the scriptures". They tell me that the reason that the pastor has these things is because he is blessed by God. I think he is blessed by whatever is dumped into the offering plate and whatever salary he can squeeze out of the church.

I don't agree with any of them when it comes to politics. They're all distraught now because John McCain isn't president. I think Lewis Black said it best when he said that your choices are two bowls of shit so you choose which one smells better to you. I don't agree with them when they whine that this pedophile or adulterous homosexual (husband cheats on wife with another man or wife cheats on husband with another woman) is a Christian because they claimed to be and is being treated unfairly. I don't agree with them when it comes to who should have the right to be married. I don't agree with their objections to stem cell research or their rejection of birth control and sex education. I don't agree with them getting their noses into other people's private lives and private medical records. I don't agree with them about taking the whole bible literally. If Christ spoke in parables in the New Testament, why isn't it possible that the majority of the Old Testament is parables or even fables that have a bit of wisdom for those who read it like Aesop's did. I disagree with them about the age of the Earth or their complete lack of concern about environmental or health issues because "they've waiting for Jesus to come back and take us home". I am thinking that Jesus would be rather pissed off about how they were taking care of the planet and other people while He was gone.

Where does a moderate who believes in God, Christ, Jesus, The Holy Spirit, and the power of meditation and prayer rest his head in this modern world?
