I started with 9oz of green Organic Sumatra beans. End result: 7.75 oz of beans ranging in color from cinnamon brown to black (sometimes on the same bean!)
I roasted in my large wok, using a wooden spoon to agitate. I roasted for approximately 7 minutes, on medium low heat. I suspect a hot air popper is in my near future; even if it weren't a more predictable method, damnit, this was MESSY! I can't really keep the beans moving without accidentally launching some of them out of the pan and across my kitchen floor.
The cooling coffee smells toasty, like browning toast, with an underlay of something nice, and almost floral. Biting into a bean, it tastes smooth, and rich, with a quick burst of juicy acidity that I think might be due to the uneven roast. We'll find out.
Yup, I'm a nerd.
