**Purple Weekend Recap**

So. After a lovely dinner on Friday night for sister Gaby's birthday at cousin Lupe's tapas place (I adore that little restaurant, it's so cozy and charming and the food is superb!), I had nothing else planned for the weekend. I usually just sort of wing it, I'm not one for making plans. And I've learned that this almost always work out perfectly. Serendipitous, if you will. That was the case with this particular weekend, I'm happy to report. :)

First, on Saturday I was just feeling blah, as I'm wont to do on Saturdays lately. Just tired from working during the week, and just feeling lazy. And then Marko came up with the super duper idea of going to "La noche morada" (The Purple Night!), a free concert by a new, local, sort of shoegazer-y band called Uva (which means grape for all you non-Spanish speaking dear readers of mine -which are actually just two, I think, by the way :P-), at the new venue of "La Casona" (The Great House.) I'm sad to report that I don't have any pictures, and I could just kick myself for that. If I had a camera, I'd feel guilty, at least, but alas, I don't have one. (And I just might get one soon, 'cause I really like to start taking pictures of my friends again!)

Anyway, that venue used to be an officer's club, back when Panama had an army. At least, I think so (!!!). I found a blog which mentions the venue and it says something else. Anyway, this blog description of the building: A little bit like gypsies, La Casona model is based on opening spaces in unrestored buildings until they are up for restoration, giving the building life and sometimes breaking into areas that aren´t well known. Too bad I couldn't find any good pictures...

So I promptly dyed my hair purple to get into the mood. Well, it's not actually purple, but only because I couldn't find any properly purple dye. :( It's more like... hmmm... very dark purplish, sort of grape-ish red. When I took a shower after the dye job to wash the dye off, my shower tiles looked as if I had taken a bath in red wine. :P

Or that maybe something like this had happened!

The dreamy, surreal quality of the venue, the music, good friends, good conversation... The night was perfect. :) I loved seeing friends again whom I hadn't seen in a while. After that, we went to a bar. Well... a seedy bar, actually. One of those open-air, wooden tables, cheap beer, with a jukebox and a couple of pool tables sort of joints. But it was cool. I was with my friends, we made fun of people, laughed at super inane things... Then went to Joe's apartment (heh, I'm always reminded of that song from that 90s MTV film starring Jerry O'Connell: "Welcome to Joe's apartment!" with the roaches singing! too funny!), to have a few more beers (not me, though, four is kind of my limit), listen to 80s music and philosophize the night away. Drunken ramblings, I tell ya...

And today... Joe came to pick me up, because I had left my car at Marko's last night and had to pick it up. So we went there, dragged him out of the house to go grab some lunch, blah blah... Then spent the entire afternoon and evening being lazy and watching DVDs. The entire first season of "Arrested Development". I had already seen most of the episodes, but I don't mind watching them a million times. That show was so funny!

I'm a bit sad that Joe is going through such a funky streak of luck lately. Well, not "luck" exactly, but... slipping into depression. But I'm happy that I got to talk to him a lot during the weekend (both last night and today), and that I could help him a little to get things off his chest and feel better.
