I'm not really hung over today, just really sore. ick.

I finally found a picture of what I painted last summer!

"Washington Mutual Jack and the Beanstalk "

Client: Clear Channel Spectacolor/ Sedgewick Road

Location: Times Square, NYC

Materials/Fabrication: This whimciscal spectacular is 80' tall and the largest in Times Square. The 20' scroll at the base transitions into a 30' meandering beanstalk., 10' cloud and 10' castle complete with flags, turrets & lights. Jack is 8' tall. This fiberglass & steel structure was built in 3-1/2 months and took 20 trucks to transport.

Yeah, I'm just that good. I helped paint the banner, leaves, and stalk. There was a team of about six of us. It was the shit.

First, they take these huge foam blocks, and carve out the desired shape, using this kind of bow, with a heated wire. Then they cover it in tinfoil (otherwise, the fiberglass would eat through it), and lay the fiberglass over the tinfoil. Then they chop the foam away, sand down the fiberglass, and we paint it! Yay!

Seriously, though. With all of the fumes from the melting foam, fibers hanging out in the air (and in you clothes. It fucking itches), and the paint fumes, we all should be dead by now. Osha is heavy there, and I wore my respirator, but the full-time guys didn't. So yeah, they should be dead.

It was so fun. I wanna do it again, I really, really do.

I'm just glad that I could finally find a picture, because they put it together there, in NYC, so I never got to see it finished. ^_^
