Some of my companions have up and left without a word; this city isn't kind to its prisoners. [The dry sarcasm's in her eyes too, though those are mostly hidden by her hat.]

You can say that again. I'm not one of those who'll get emotional when somebody leaves, 'cause for all we know, they might be back home, but... never knowing for sure: it's hard, for a lot of people.

Uncertainty is the worst part. In part, I wish one of my companions would return just so I would discover for certain they had returned home - then again, I don't want them to be trapped here again.

... I'm sure a lot of people wanna know the truth too. And I've heard some come back with no memories from their previous stay... Or just a few days pass here, but years there... Thinking about it, our situation's pretty unreal. And thinking about it's just making my head hurt.

..that's rather disconcerting. I'm none too happy with now having to contemplate the logistics of inter-dimensional space-time.

Ugh, normally you'd leave this business to the scholars. But the folks looks like they're staying clammed up, and no one's willing to pry them open either.

[He shrugs, just a little.]

Seeing others worlds is many a kid's fantasy, heck, I know I wanted to explore since I was in one city all my life until I was twenty-one. But now? Man, home sounds like heaven.

Willing and able are two distinctly different abilities. No amount of threat or convincing has been able to get a native of this city to explain.

[She shuts her eyes and snorts in humorless laughter.] If you had mentioned multiple worlds to me a year ago, I'd have grounds to call you insane. I don't enjoy fantasy much, and had no need of my dreams of exploring. My work provides enough opportunity.
