[Clothing] We can be sure that he's wearing his necklace, which has a simple black crucifix as a pendant. He's almost always wearing his round eyeglasses. On the job he dresses like a respectable member of the Victorian middle class, complete with tie, vest, and the occasional long coat. Off the job, his shirt might stay unbuttoned and his hair untied. Cain claims that he has a flashy sense of style.
[Background]
Jizabel is the illegitimate son of Earl Alexis Hargreaves and a maid, Allegra Disraeli. His mother hid him from his father when he was young, to escape the fate of his two older sisters who was taken away by the earl. He was, in his formative years, raised as a girl, possibly to throw off the earl who was searching for a son. But Alexis found them when Jizabel was no older than seven and took him away as well. His mother, still having feelings for Alexis, was unable to object. He and his mother were given a mansion to stay in, and were well provided for. The servants were very nice to Jizabel. While Jizabel was a frail and sickly child, he was not lacking in friends. He was lacking in human friends, yes, as he lived quite a sheltered life due to his health. But because his home was close to a forest, he managed to make friends with the animals. His best friend was a lamb that he called Snark.
Despite living in the same house, his mother grew distant from Jizabel. She avoided even just looking at him. He did love his father's visits, however. Innocent as he was, he believed that his father truly loved him and that the whippings his father occasionally gave him were there to absolve him from sin and lead him to heaven. He strove to be a dutiful son, obeying his every order and taking his punishment without question.
Of course when things seem too good to be true, as Jizabel thought of himself to be perfectly happy and satisfied with things, then it's usually not true. And for someone as gentle and as sheltered as Jizabel, the truth becomes harder to handle. A chance peek inside the kitchen made him realize that the same servants that have been so kind to him are capable of killing animals for his meal. Granted this were farm animals and we generally understand that farm animals were bred for us to eat. But keep in mind that for Jizabel, these animals were his only friends. This did not sit well with Jizabel, and how this was something that people merely accepted to be normal disturbed him. He refused to eat meat after this. At some point in time, he refused to eat anything at all. He came to the realization that everything humans did required the death of another creature. (He even went so far as to care for the microbes that die whenever he breathed... seriously. Here's
proof. He totally went there.)
His father was there to encourage him. By encourage we mean tell him that yes, man is indeed sinful and that he was proud of Jizabel for being able to embrace this sin. That he was being considered to be the heir of the Hargreaves family. Jizabel believed in Alexis and took the black crucifix necklace that was handed to him on that day. He underwent an operation to cure his intestinal disease. He studied medicine to help his father in the future and proved to be a genius with it. He became a dutiful son in order to be able to face Snark. And so the day came when Alexis told him that he could see his best friend, so long as he have meat in his meal. He was a growing child after all. He needed his meat. Jizabel ate the meal happily. Now for the after-dinner revelation.
His meal was Snark. He was not going to be the heir to the Hargreaves family because Alexis has a legitimate son named Cain. To cure him of his sickness, they had to transplant body parts from his sisters, who were now dead. Oh, and all these were done for Alexis' amusement.
Jizabel broke. He thought of himself as the most loathsome person in the world, who ate his best friend and is therefore unworthy of love. He did find a replacement, however. He realized that the exposed internal organs of a freshly murdered corpse was warm... just like love. And that's how we got the crazy doctor we have today.
[Personality]
At age 26, Jizabel still works for Alexis and his organization, Delilah. He believes that he can, while he wants to, never leave his father's side and therefore continues to obey his every order. Yes, this involves getting whipped on occasion. This involves giving life to the dead and doing crazy human experiments. It should involve him ordering people around to grab land from various people because they have their houses/establishments built on places that Delilah needs to form some Stone Henge symbol in order to destroy London and revive Augusta Hargreaves, Alexis' sister and true love. But Jizabel, despite being a first tier member of the organization (representing Death in the tarot's Major Arcana, because Delilah's organization is based on the tarot), prefers to work in the front line. His only servant is a 35 year-old man named Cassian, who's stuck in the body of a 12 year-old due to a genetic disease. And Jizabel orders Cassian around because they both know that Jizabel is the only person that could give Cassian the adult body that he wants. He treats Cassian with little respect (partially because he tends to forget how much older Cassian is compared to him) but over the times they've been together he's learned to listen from time to time. Cassian does care for his master, a feeling that Jizabel only somehow reciprocated before he died. Yeah. Way to go, Jizabel.
Jizabel's hobbies, as he has stated himself, are murder and seduction. Murder because he believes that, after eating his best friend and living on his sisters parts, he can not stoop any lower than he is right now. And because it's fun. And he still hates humans. (He's still gentle to animals.) The same goes for seduction. Jizabel has hardly any qualms about using his body to get what he wants. He approaches people depending on what kind of person they'll respond to. If his target is a lovesick woman, he'll approach her as a lover. If she's a mother with a prodigal son, he'll approach her as a kindly, sentimental doctor. If he knows that his target likes him (hello there, High Priest Cassandra), then, well, he's not above faking submission. He's not above faking love. It's not like he actually believes in the power of love... though he still craves it... from the wrong person. Again, good job, Jizabel, you sane person you.
He is motivated by anger, jealousy towards Cain (he blames Cain for everything; thus harboring a crazy obsession towards him and his eyeballs), hatred, want of love and self-loathing. But there's still a part of him that's similar to who he was as a child. He is sensitive to the feelings of others (and this is possibly why he can manipulate people so well), and dislikes seeing people hurt. While he might have resigned himself to having abnormal tastes and hobbies, he still can not comprehend why normal people would hurt others. He still harbors an affinity with animals, considering them better than humans and is willing to protect without hesitation.
tl;dr Crazy fabulous doctor WITH A HELL LOT OF DADDY ISSUES who will gut you for fun, profit and PETA.
[Specialties/Abilities]
the ability to brave the cold streets of London without buttoning up his shirt like a proper gentleman, the ability to command the wind to blow on his hair during dramatic moments, the ability to put a scalpel in his mouth and not get hurt, and super faggotry
Jizabel doesn’t have any superhuman abilities. But this does not prevent him from doing things that can not be done by ordinary humans. As a member of Delilah, he has dabbled in the dark arts. By this I mean that, given a set of instructions and rituals, Jizabel could probably cause something magical to happen. But he has no innate magical ability, despite how connected he seems to be to nature and the plight of every living creature (except humans).
But Jizabel’s greatest ability would be how he can “revive” the dead into what the series calls living dolls. This knowledge was something Delilah did not possess until Jizabel joined the organization. (Granted, Delilah was a mere research organization that focused on the mysteries of medical science before Alexis turned it into a terrorist organization/cult of sorts that’s dedicated to destroying London and reviving Augusta. Still, Alexis commented on how Jizabel’s medical expertise surpassed his.) To create these dolls, Jizabel needs the body or the part of the body of the person he’s going to “revive” or clone. They usually come out looking perfectly like the original, at whatever age Jizabel or Alexis chooses them to be. For example, Mikaila was initially made to look like a younger version of Suzette, only to be given an older body later on. Like normal human beings they eat, drink, breathe, have feelings, etc. They are capable of free will and have some knowledge (how much differs from doll to doll) about their supposed past. They often possess some supernatural power, like Meredianna’s ability to see the future and Mikaila’s ability to control spiders. There is a catch to this revival, of course. They will occasionally need what the organization calls a baptismal. This baptismal is a bath or an offering of blood from people that are of the same blood type, age and gender of the doll.
[Affection] Go ahead and do anything to this character. He'll either pretend to like it because he needs something from you or find some horrible way to exact revenge. Or he might be genuinely touched. Highly unlikely.
[Fighting] Jizabel can use a whip and could probably shoot a gun. But he's more of a behind-the-scenes manipulator than a fighter. (That's what Cassian's for.) And he has little to no sense of self-preservation. (You wanna shoot me, Cain? Okay then. Lemme stand here looking like a prick and wait for someone to push me away when you fire that trigger. OR DO YOU WANT TO LISTEN TO THE STORY OF MY WOE?) That being said, fighting is a-okay and killing is a go so long as we plan it.
[Other Permissions] Reading his mind is fine; though Jizabel would probably hate it and will probably stay away from all known mind readers. If you need any info, just let me know. Fourth wall breaking... I guess it's okay?
[Other Facts] The mundane is actually terrified of sheep. :|
