Is it me, or is delicious basically useless now? I am honestly not trying to be an asshole; I work in software development and I know how hard they've been working, but... holy shit ( Read more... )

excessive experimentation

The issues I have found and flailed over so far are increasing all the time, but here's a quick run-down:

  • No tag bundles. NO TAG BUNDLES. The only thing differentiating delicious from all the other bookmarking sites and making it actually useful. And destroying five years of ridiculously obsessive tagwrangling and curation. I have over 2000 bookmarks.

  • No network or subscriptions. About 90% of what I do - did - with delicious was find new things to read this way. WHAT DO I DO NOW?

  • No mass editing for tags

  • Slashes don't work

  • Any tags with a colon in seem to also generate a new tag called for instance has:a if you ever used a:[author name] for tagging, which I did on every. Damn. Bookmark.

  • My firefox extension is taunting me by continually telling me my network has new links on it but when I click on the button it goes nowhere now. This is cruel and unusual punishment.

  • All of my notes - so authors' names, fic summaries, and commentary - are now in quotation marks and italics, which makes them harder to read and frankly looks dumb. Also apparently MY BOOKMARKS need to have their comments qualified by a PICTURE OF ME so people know I was the one who left the note.

  • EVERYTHING USEFUL IS BROKEN AND EVERYTHING HURTS

murklins and I expected a bunch of new useless features, not one new feature and THE REMOVAL OF ALL BASIC FUNCTIONALITY. God, it is so much worse than I feared. I'm so depressed about it.

This is what I thought, that they'd add in some shiny new features but you'd still be able to BOOKMARK and TAG and VIEW YOUR NETWORK. I was just worried my network would reduce because of people not opting in to the transfer; IT NOT WORKING AT ALL didn't occur to me.

Right? I was in the middle of catching up on my network when this all happened. I guess I can still view some through google reader but will I have to do it all manually now? It looks like there's an option to subscribe to each user's individual bookmarks which is such a step backward. WHY.

    I wish I had thought to do a screenshot of my network, there are people I've been following for ages that I may never re-find. ;_;

If you look under "following," all the people in your network should be there.

I just double checked, but I still have a limited number of who all I was following - 20 names out of 60+ or so. Sigh. Hopefully that will at least right itself.

Nope, only 20 are listed, and I was following over 100 people.

Hopefully they're just hidden and will come back.

Man, I hate that I go under "following" and click on someone's name and it takes me to their stacks. JUST TAKE ME TO THEIR PAGE, DELICIOUS. Oh god. I am getting increasingly crazy as the day goes on!

And yeah, it seems to be only showing me 20 people and no pagination.

I guess I was following more people than I thought then. I never followed too many, so I didn't realize there were people missing.

If you click on the picture and NOT the name, it does take you to their page, though. But of course their tags aren't working correctly either.

if you have the full firefox plugin installed, and you go to bookmark a site, and you click down to the 'share' tab, and you click on the delicious arrow thingie, you can manually scroll and re-type your network.

    Yeah. technology yay!

I was about to be totally gleeful about the plugin and how it saved everything, but there are now 1000 less bookmarks than there were earlier (from 4778 to 3779). WTF, delicious. I'm assuming it's because I closed firefox to play a computer game and it re-synced. They just lost 1000 of my bookmarks. WTF. And there's no way to know what disappeared because the tags are all still there, so it's got to be a few things here and a few things there. I just. WTF. Sigh.

The sync is broken, so what I've got in there is anything that is a public bookmark, as that doesn't clear from firefox when you log out (unless you tell it to). The almost 1000 missing links are all the links that I've marked private, which will not reintegrate since the sync function is broken. And since the tag search is all fucked up, all those private links are nigh on impossible to find.

Another annoyance is that when you bookmark stuff now, you HAVE to put commas between tags or else it will smoosh them all into one tag EVEN if you're selecting previously used tags via the auto-fill in bookmarklet. That is especially ridiculous when you consider that it KNOWS these are separate tags, as that's how you selected them via auto-fill.

Honestly, I am Really Really glad I have no idea what my bookmark count was prior to the transition.

Arg this is so ridiculous. COMMAS. WHAT IS THIS, 2002?! though I guess if they're going to support multi-word tags they have to do something, but as you say, if you're pulling the tags from a list, IT SHOULD BE OBVIOUS. /o\
