Yes, it's been a while. Here, have an update of sorts with dot points.
- I haven't been in a good headspace for posting, as I've been dealing with wild moodswings and lots of stress. TigerEyes has been trying to prop me up, and has upbraided me several times for odd lifestyle choices when I'm preoccupied. For example, while my homemade spelt bread with panch phoran is tasty, I really shouldn't subsist entirely on that, cheese and grapes alone for weeks on end. And I should pay attention when I get stress dermatitis and alopecia. More B group vitamins and ginseng, I think! :P
- Things are starting to move a bit with regards to my various projects. My immediate GrumpyBoss T on the concomm seems to be somewhat pleased with the standard of my work so far. My panels are coming together, and I will be putting the call out for contestant content really soon, probably after I get back from Melbourne. And my workshop has just received a donation of endearingly eclectic fabric scraps - equivalent in weight to a small child, thanks
mandragora2003! - for use in costuming-on-the-fly.
- Work is stressful as usual, due to yet another round of workflow changes imposed from On High. These are meant to help cut costs, but end up delaying results as we struggle to cope in the now-limited working hours. My relationships with my adopted Little Sisters goes from strength to strength. I'm starting to wish I really had blood sisters too, even though I also have an adopted Half-Sister (*waves*), and several adopted Cousins. (Not legally adopted, actually.) They're all just so cute! I've never really gotten along with women until recently in my life. Guess that maturity thing is starting to kick in. :P
- Costuming is a little frustrating. Some designers are hard to spur on, and it gets annoying trying to walk the balance between chivvying and hassling them. I have deadlines, and you've been paid, dammit!
- Uni nears inexorably. I have received my fee statement (eep!) and ordered my books for the semester. I will have to go get my student card soon, as I will need it for exams. Luckily as an external student I can just mail it in. My vanity is happy that my recent weight loss has caused my jawline to resurface nicely. :)
- Uncle Paul's new coat is divine. I just wanted to say that. It's amazingly gorgeous. The finest herringbone wool duster with removable shoulder-cape and a silver satin lining. He's thinking of getting the rococo steel buttons replaced with antique brothel tokens. :)
- I resolved to save money really hard this year, and managed to clear my credit cards completely until today, when I splashed out on the buy-one-get-one-free cat food sale, picking up almost $300 worth of high quality cat biscuits. (Royal Canin for the little dears.) Yay!
- Speaking of cats, my Dervish looks hilarious with a lion clip. She feels like deep pile velvet now, and her belly fur is growing in like sheepskin wool. She really enjoyed feeling cooler with almost a kilo of fur gone, and you'd never know she was pushing ten years old; she's bouncing around like she's barely three.
- I resolved to give myself a good 12 to 18 months to get used to the addition of uni to my lifestyle considerations before I do any more planning for trips. Hence why Worldcon is not even on my radar. Unfortunately it looks like my brother may be planning something for my father's 70th birthday ("Where should we take him for dinner, anywhere in the world?"). Luckily for me the northern winter rules out Europe or the US, though I'm leaning toward Hong Kong at the moment. And also just as unfortunately I will have to head to the old hometown early next January for my grand-uncle's (my late grandfather's brother) 90th birthday. I missed his 80th, and their 60th wedding anniversary dinner, so missing this one is not an option. Besides, his daughter - my cousin-aunt A - will not hear of my visiting without TigerEyes. They really like him, and this bemuses him somewhat. :P
- I am going to try very hard to make things work this year, and to stay positive. I am so very privileged to have the opportunities and options that I do, and I am going to make sure I appreciate them instead of complaining that life isn't perfect. I do, however, reserve the right to whinge or rant for the purpose of blowing off steam. :)
