You had a choice? I had to do Romeo and Juliet and like it! Poetry wise it was Wilfred Owen, which depressing as hell, but I oddly liked it and thrilled my English teacher by asking to borrow more from her.
I've not seen much shakespeare on stage and most recently I've only seen the updated 'rock' versions (and actually, when I think about it, it's not that recently!) of the Scottish play (me, superstitious? ;-) ) and I think it was the Tempest. Anyways, I'm looking forward to it greatly and have already booked time off from work for opening night. Not that I'm sure I'll be able to get tickets, but it's during school holidays and it would be a bugger trying to get the time off if I left it 'til next year!
Haven't we already seen Tony Blair in DW? A power crazed Prime Minister who brainwashes the country into voting for him before taking us into a war...if you rearrange the beat of Saxon's drums, you can almost hear the refrain - Things can only get better.
LOL! You know, you're right. Maybe he'll be the new, reincarnated Master and that Warburtons bread blokey will be the new Doctor. What a hit show that would be!
Yeah, at Higher English you had to choose one poetry option, one play option and one novel option. The only area we didn't get the choice was the novel option, can't remember why but we all had to do Sunset Song. Which I really liked, so it wasn't a hardship, and we got to watch the tv adaptation :-) I also bought the collected poems of Wilfred Owen after reading Dulce et Decorum Est at school. Really like the imagery it invokes.
I saw an updated version of the Scottish play at the Festival a few years back. I had to, my friend fancied the bloke who was in it :-) We went to see A Midsummer Night's Dream through school as well and I've seen another one but it's gone completely out of my head now...
