Well, it's not Martha staying... which would have been perfect for me, you understand ;-)
But it's not bad...
Donna!!!!
Donna is back. Something we never thought would happen. Yay! Someone to snark and bitch-slap
him and keep him in some kind of order. Maybe when Martha comes back, he'll even remember to
say a proper thank you for all the crap she

Got your late night wake up post. And this mornin' I'm still smiling over the announcement. I'm lovin' this. Precisely because
a) I loved Donna
b) I think Catherine Tate will bring a lot more nuances to her over time, she's a great deal more talented then some people seem to think because they don't enjoy her comedy (something that is entirely subjective).
c) This is equality wise, the best companion the Doctor has had since his return. Much as I love Martha, Donna won't be crushin' on him and she certainly won't let him away with the crap the young 'uns did.
d) Real SNARK!!! Banter!! The pair of them givin' it loads in the middle of a crisis and bewildering the bad guys who'll probably think they've been forgotten about. ;D
e)This is why I love British & Irish TV. You wouldn't get this kind of casting of an older, less glam woman in a massive show like this, even if she is a star in her own right. Hell you probably wouldn't get a star of her own show to deign to play a 'companion'.
Of course I'm fully aware that is probably exactly what Catherine Tate wants. Apart from having a laugh with a mate, she'll expand into a very different area acting wise.
And I'm tellin' you this! With HER around, I think Tennant will be here for the entirety of Season 4!

They will have to tone her down a tad, I feel, but it will all be good, I'm sure.
Best of a bad situation for me.
Although it has been suggested that Freema has been 'Shuffled' off to make way for a big BBC star. Which wouldn't really surprise me.

You've taken point 2 about the Equality of their personas and applied it to point 3 about the Snark! Separate things altogether. Never said Martha didn't snark, nor that she viewed him as perfect. What I'm saying is that Donna won't be crushin' on the Doc and therefore won't be inclined to let him away with much *because* of any crushin'.
As for the Snark itself we all know that this particular Snark will be very different with the Doc and Donna...far louder and more prolonged for a starter!!
And yeah I made that observation about the 'shuffling off/interim period' last night after thinking on it. A part of me feels like once they discovered CT was very inclined to return, Freema might just have been keeping the seat warm until they could work out the logistics of it.

I am just sensitive... ;)
I don't really think Martha did let him get away with too much. Rose, bloody hell, yes. But not Martha. But there again, you know I loves Martha, so I feel we shall disagree ;)
Oh yes the snark WILL be different... but I hope not too loud. Just the thought of Tennant AND Tate giving it large in the TARDIS would make me hide behind the sofa and I've not done that since the old skool Cybers!
The more I think about it, the more I think Freema was 'Shuffled' for the sake of a big star. It's not really fair. And the Scum are STILL on about her being 'Axed' *swears VERY loudly*

Indeed I think we shall. For a couple of reasons there. I actually think Rose (blecccch) didn't have much to let him away *with* which is half my problem with the whole thing. He (Ten) was pretty much always perfectly nice to her. I really don't count the "CARPETS!" conversation as that could be any bloke not into commitment. But overall I can't really ever recall him treating her shabbily.
Martha on the other hand *has* been treated shabbily. Continuously 'seconded bested', ignored as if she weren't there, not thanked (sufficiently) and indeed shouted at. She did indeed have a go at him a couple of times, most specifically Gridlock which was YAY, and her yelling at him in S.O.Ds, but it has to be said she did let him off (specifically with the second besting and at least once with the shouting) more than a couple of times, and you'd have to put that down to the crushing on him.
Believe me, Martha is SOOOOO far ahead of Rose in my estimation Jack would have become Boe. I am not in anyway putting her down, I LOVE HER TOO, and am still stunned and sorry she went so soon, though I totally admire the reasons the character had (if not the writers *eyes them*).
But having seen her in action you'd have to say Donna would not take the shouting (without shouting in return) nor would she take the second besting without getting in a proper strop, and that's what I'm getting at. It's two different characters and two different circumstances. Seems it's only natural that a girl suffering from the unrequited's would let her crush away with more than a woman who looks on him (most probably) as a mate.
