And I'm spent!
I just had what could possible be the most April Fool's day *ever*; having a baby. :D
My second daughter, Brigid Erin (as named by her father), was born at 3:42 pm. She weighed 6 lbs and 15 oz (though why they couldn't just give us that last ounce I'll never know). She is 19 and a quarter inches long. She looks remarkably like her daddy did when he was born - his mother has already sent us a picture to prove it.
Brigid is doing well. She's retaining more of her weight than they expected; probably due to how long she feeds. The girl hasn't taken less time to eat than 30 mins since she popped out. Anyone who's breastfed will probably shutter at how sore I currently am as a result. Brigid is currently sleeping on her daddy's chest (as he is sleeping on his back). I'm waiting for her to wake up and demand food. Due to the aforementioned soreness, I'm in no hurry for her to be hungry. :P
I'm mostly fine. I started the epidural uber-early and now I'm paying for it. My back is so sore it's like all the pain from the spreading hips during pregnancy has just moved north and camped out there. I'm trying the heating pad for a day and seeing if I need to add some form of pain pills - we'll see.
Mavis is taking the whole thing remarkably well. My mother introduced the two the night Bri was born; told Mavis that Bri was her new baby. Silly woman. Mavis keeps acting like she's got this awesome new toy that no one will actually let her play with. First time she saw Bri feeding, and was told that the baby was eating, she took one look at me, one look at the baby and quickly decided to leave before she was next on the menu. Last night we made progress, though. I was feeding Bri and Mavis wanted to watch. Aiden picked her up and held her so she could see Bri and I. She gave me the same "What's going on?" look as the night before. I poked the side of my boob and said "baby food", which got a confused look. I tapped Bri's head and then made he sign for "eat", tapped Bri's head again and said "hungry". Since I didn't seem too worried about the baby eating mommy, Mavis was more confused. So I pulled my boob out, squeezed and showed Mavis the liquid. Mavis looked up and I said "baby food" again. I use a shield to help speed the latch-on process, Mavis picked it up and gave me another "huh?" look. I grinned at Aiden and said "baby bottle". All of a sudden, Mavis' entire face went from "what" and "why aren't you worried you're being eaten" to "oh! ok then". It was a good moment.
Aiden's doing well as well. He's using this as an excuse to catch up on his sleep. He's taking a week off from work to stay with me during the worst part of the healing process. Which is awesome. He's been with me almost constantly since the morning Bri was born. He was wonderful in delivery - must be a natural.
And now we're nursing - yippy! ;p
Blessed by,
Mamma Mavis
