How am I supposed to exercise to improve lung function if I have sinuses and lungs that go crazy at any sign of pollen and dust? Do I still exercise even with chest congestion? Considering the risks of NOT exercising are stroke, heart disease, cancer, and diabetes vs. worsening whatever is in my lungs?

Haven't been yet. It is possible that I am getting double whammied by heat exhaustion, which apparently can take days to recover from and from allergies to stirred up dust which were exacerbated by power walking Tuesday. I also have reactive airway disease which means my airways freak out when a dust particle gets in. I think I am getting to the point where it is exercise or die.

Wear a painter's mask, or exercise indoors at a gym until you build your resistance.

I take it OTC antihistamines don't help, correct?

No they don't. I can't really afford a gym so I guess I will have to use the stationary bikes at the lab after work. SHould have worn a painter's mask Saturday even though no one else was wearing them.

Some gyms are surprisingly affordable. Around here, there's a few with memberships as low as $10/mo. I've been debating joining one of the 24hr ones, since I don't feel safe walking in the middle of the night around here.
