Dig up our bones

My dear summer, I am sorry. I have not eaten picnics, swum in the cold British sea or been to outdoor garden events under constant threat of being rained off. I haven't eaten ice creams (well, one, maybe) or embraced the range of iced lattes marketed by popular coffee shop chains. I haven't sat in a deck chair, sun lounger or blow up novelty water-ring. I have ignored bumblebees. I have positively neglected you, summer, and it was very wrong of me.

The last ten weeks have been spent riding my rickety bike down the same long road, to sit in office all day and stare out of the window at the clock tower. Sometimes birds flew past the window and it was quite nice. Tomorrow I'm leaving the leafy suburbs for London. For two weeks I'll be on a work placement at a textiles company, desperately trying to appear cool and generally freaking out.

I'm looking forward to autumn now, with it's lazy low evening and shuffling leaves.

london, summer, autumn
