Toda y was a better day.  The car starts with a hearty rumble, where before, it was a more polite "uh-hmmm."   The clutch didn't act up at all.  We went and got more cheese and eggs.

I called around for estimates to a couple of places.  Firestone asked me to call back and talk to Rusty tomorrow morning.  Apparently, he;s the only one who can work the computer.  I don't mind, I feel comfortable talking to him.  The other transmission place said, "Well, if slave cylinder is seperate [meaning they don't have to pull apart the whole transmission] then it would be $350-450."  and if they have to take the whole thing apart, about a hundred more.  He invited me to come on by and let them check it out for free.  I guess he couldn't actually look up my car or the parts.  I don't know if this was ignorance or laziness.  That doesn't speak well to me about them as a business.

I read "Once Upin a Time in the North" by Phillip Pullman.  It is a Novella that tells the story of how the aeronaut from Texas, Lee Scoresby, meets and befriends the great polar bear Iorek Byrnison.  These are both characters from the His Dark Materials trilogy that I really liked.  While I found the surface story interesting and exciting, I was left with the feeling that the author was trying to get across ideas that I don't agree with and I didn't see completely because his viewpoint was so different from mine.  I mean... I am so far removed from his opinions that I just may have missed his whole point.  But this individual story was great.  These two characters step in to right a wrong with nothing to gain for them as individuals and we get to see where this odd friendship began.

book, car crap
