I Still Care [09/14]

Yesung/Ryeowook, a few ninjas
R | Romance, Drama
Life was never particularly kind to Ryeowook. If it meant indulging him in the riches, opportunies thrown at him, then he doesn't need that kindness. All he wanted is a friend, but it's much too hard to ask for.
Warnings: Mentions of drugs, weapons, some vulgar slips, insanely OOC

[IVAN’S POV]

How dare you humiliate me like that in front of a crowd, Kim Ryeowook?! Wait 'till I get my revenge on you...

I stared at Ryeowook and his friends happily celebrating at the table. How come Ryeowook is always smiling while I’m always miserable? The world isn’t fair, but don’t worry…I’ll make it fair.

[YESUNG’S POV]

“Ryeowook… don’t return to that bar again,” I told him and he just stared at me in response, confused.

“Why?” he asked.

“Didn’t you see what you did to Ivan that night?! He looked like he was going to murder you.”

“Don’t worry, he can’t do anything. His father’s company is a little umbrella under my father’s company.”

“Umbrella company?” Even though Ryeowook did change, he still had that habit of belittling his friends, even though it was true sometimes. I wish he would be more careful.

“It means that his father’s company depends on my father’s company to survive. One little move could affect his father’s company. He wouldn’t dare to touch me,” Ryeowook replied while looking into space.

“It’s best to be careful.”

“Okay, I promise to be more careful next time.”

“We’re expecting a lot from you!” Sungmin responded while 10 other heads appeared at the door. Ryeowook smiled at their presence.

“Remember, you have to keep your promise,” Kangin teased sending everyone in a fit of laughter.

[RYEOWOOK’S POV]

I wish I had kept my promise to everyone that day. If I did, maybe the events following afterwards wouldn’t have happen.

“KIM RYEOWOOK! WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’RE DOING?!” My mother’s voice boomed. I was innocently reading a book on the couch in the empty living room until she came in and started screaming about something.

“What?”

“YOU DON’T TALK TO ME IN THAT KIND OF TONE YOUNG MAN!” By now, my father, who was busy working in his little ‘work area,’ came down to see what all the ruckus was about.

It’s funny how she’s screaming about my attitude towards her when I’ve been talking to her like this for most of my life. Actually, scratch that, I DON’T even get a chance to talk to her.

“What are you screaming about this time?” I asked slightly annoyed that my peace and quiet was ruined; I was getting interested in the book too.

“DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MUCH DAMAGE OUR COMPANY WILL FACE IF YOUR BOYFRIEND GETS EXPOSED?” She screamed at me, her face getting redder by the second. I dropped my book and just stared at her. How did she…? It doesn’t surprise me that she was worried about her company more than my own sexuality. But then again, if she’s worried about my sexuality, the root of her worries will always be the company.

“My relationship has nothing to do with you or your company.”

“Ryeowook, there are so many other rebellious things you can do; why torture yourself in a gay relationship?” my father asked, his voice tired from work.

“ Before, I did all of that to annoy you, I admit that, but this time, I’m serious.” I confessed while looking at them straight in the eye. Their eyes showed suspicion; they didn’t believe me.

“Oh, please, Ryeowook, not right now; I don’t have time for this,” my mother said, flailing her arms in the air. When do you have time for me? When do you actually care for me? You just care about your stupid company.

My phone vibrated, indicating that I got a text.

‘Hey, wanna go out for a drink?

-Minhyung.’

Boy, was I glad to see a text from one my ignorant friends. Sometimes having them around wasn’t such a bad idea after all. Though, I promise Super Junior not to go back to that bar but at that moment, the only thought I had was to get out of here.

“Aidos,” I said before leaving the house. I could hear my mother’s command to comeback, but I could hardly care.

I was at the bar, as usual, with my usual group of friends excluding Ivan. It seems like he’s still mad about the last incident. I totally forgot about the promise I made to Super Junior.

“You and Ivan still didn’t make up yet?” Minhyung pointed out while looking around the bar.

“I don’t know.”

“Stop acting like such girls. Go out for a drink and talk it out,” another friend advised. Then we can go meet each other in jail, wonderful.

In a blink of an eye, Ivan appeared at the entrance of the bar, waving to everyone.

“Hey guys,” he smiled warmly at us, including me. I didn’t make a move to even look at him.

“Is our Ryeowook still being stubborn?”

“No, I simply don’t want to be associated with him.” I could imagine the hurt in Ivan's eyes but I don’t really care at the moment. I plan on actually keeping my promise with my friends, and that meant…isolating myself from my current friends. I felt kind of sad with having the thought of leaving them. Even though they’re ignorant riches, they were still there for me.

“Aw, come on, Ryeowook, don’t be too touchy,” Ivan casually said while resting an arm on my shoulder. I shrugged him off.

“I’m not being too touchy.”

“What did you do to get Ryeowook so fired up? Usually, he’s very laid back,” Minhyung asked.

“He got rather sensitive when he saw me giving him some ‘candy.’ I think it was because he was with his friends. Then he went crazy and attacked me,” Ivan exaggerated.

Suddenly phrases like, “Are you serious, Ryeowook?” “What? Ryeowook didn’t do that; he would never.” I, for a moment, forgot that I was actually going to miss them.

“I was serious when I said that I don’t want to be associated with ‘candy’ anymore,” I told them with confidence in my voice.

“Why the sudden change? You used to be more addicted then me,” Minhyung said.

“I don’t see why it’s so hard to understand. I’m not interested in those things anymore,” I replied while getting out of my chair. I heard some of my friends get up to try to stop me but I didn’t bother to stop as I walked out straight to the door. I guess this is good bye.

As I was getting ready to leave the bar, a hand stopped me.

“Nice seeing you here, Ryeowook,” a smirk played on the person’s face.

“Hello Mr. Police Superintendent,” I smiled while greeting him. How could I forget Mr. Police Superintendent, also known as, Ahn Baekyoung? The one who’s been hot on trail, trying to get me in jail for drug consumption. He caught me numerous times with drug consumption, but thanks to my father’s lawyer, I could walk outside freely. Even though, I’ve been let out, he still doesn’t want to give up; what a stubborn man.

“How have you been? I haven’t seen you in a while.”

“I’ve been busy, trying to get out of trouble,” I replied.

“Really? That’s a nice change; I hope you’re telling the truth.”

“Of course I am; I would hate to lie to you.”

“I hope you’re not lying this time, Ryeowook.” It always felt like a battle of mentality whenever we meet. Even right now, neither of us dares to avert our gaze somewhere us, in fear that we might lose even if we relax for just a little bit.

“You can check me if you want,” I offered while spreading my arms out.

“I’ll gladly accept the invitation.” After a while, he took out a package of white powder. I stared at it, dumbfounded. How did that get there?!

“Looks like daddy’s lawyer needs to make an appearance again,” he smirked.

Before leaving the bar, I looked back at Ivan who was grinning at me in response. That bastard; he probably snuck it in when he first came and put his arms around my shoulder; what a lowlife.

[SUNGMIN’S POV]

We limply made our way out of the police station. When we got a call from the police, we started panicking, thinking that something happened to Ryeowook; it was all because Ryeowook was being interviewed for drug consumption and needed someone to get him out.

I thought you changed, Ryeowook. You promise us that you wouldn’t go back to that bar. You promise to change for us. What happen to your promise?

[RYEOWOOK’S POV]

“Seriously, guys…it wasn’t me this time,” I repeated for the 100th time. “It was Ivan; he framed me.”

“We know it wasn’t you, Ryeowook but why…you promised us that you’ll stop going to that bar. We already told you it was dangerous…” Leeteuk trailed off.

This time, in a long time, I was speechless. I did break my promise for them. Sometimes, I wonder if I really can break out from my old friends...Can I really change just like that?
