Game 2!

Oct 16, 2008 00:14

Most of the Edmonton Oilers forgot they had a game tonight but, luckily, were reminded in the second intermission.

I like how we can play terrible and still pull out wins.
I hate how we play terrible.

Somehow they managed to get a lead early in the first period with a sick tip from Shawn Horcoff. I guess he still knows where the net is, but it's kind of scary when your best player describes his own play as “terrible”. Denis Grebeshkov now leads the team in points... Seriously.

Garon saved the day again with 33 saves. We need more shots for, less shots against. That's a pretty obvious statement but I think the team needs to hear it. We were getting badly outshot but I think the way we caught up was impressive. We were slightly better on the draw today, going at 41% which is still, frankly, pretty bad.

The next 35 minutes were pretty terrible, though they were highlighted by a beautiful pass from Robert Nilsson that led to a goal by Sheldon Souray.

The third period was the kind of hockey I like to see the Oilers play. Lubomir Visnovsky put the Oil up 3-2 a couple minutes into the period and the Oilers played like a team possessed after that. Thank god. Is anyone else wondering how we managed to keep a lead for almost a whole period? Damn.

STANDOUTS:
(To do this at all is being generous- I'm really just ignoring the mountains of bad.)

The Kid Line
Tonight, it was not so much about offense for these guys as I think we've all come to expect from them. What really impressed me was their defensive play. All of them came in on the backcheck, through the middle, taking the puck away and with it good scoring chances. They all finished at +1.

Ethan Moreau
That's my captain. That's how you play Oilers hockey. That's all I have to say.
