Why I love Sergei Fedorov

There is always something good in the world, no matter how minor it is.

Russian star Sergei Fedorov played Defense for the Washington Capitals tonight. Coincidentally, the Vancouver Canucks were held to 10 shots, and Fedorov was +3.

♥ Fedorov is perhaps the best defensive forward ever. He was a childhood hero of mine, growing up, and I've always admired him- but even moreso now that I understand everything.

♥ A coach of his once said you could stick him on defense and he'd win the Norris. I wouldn't say that's too much of an exaggeration.

♥ In the epic Canada/Russia brawl at the '87 World Juniors, Fedorov said he wasn't first off the bench, or the second, but he was probably the third or fourth.

♥ Multiple Selkes, the Hart Trophy, the Pearson, three-time World Champion, three-time Stanley Cup Champion... he's done it all.

♥ One of my favorite Fedorov facts: He used 2 million dollars, his entire base salary in 98-99 to create the Sergei Fedorov Foundation, a charity focused on Detroit area children.

He's a wonderful leader, an exceptional player, and I'd say he still has a lot left in the tank. So this is my appreciation post for Sergei Viktorovich Fedorov.
