Oilers Season Opener!

Oct 12, 2008 20:50

Totally pissed off at whoever is scheduling the league- some teams played 4 games before the Edmonton Oilers got their first game. But, wow. I missed regular season hockey.

The Oilers opened up the season against the Colorado Avalanche with a 3-2 win after Dustin Penner deflected his 2nd goal of the night past Peter Budaj with 5.4 seconds left.

What a guy.

Notes:

The PP looked good off the bat with a goal on the first powerplay of the night. We were moving the puck really well but I can't say the same for the rest of the night, though there were some great passing plays.

The kids had a lot of great chances but didn't connect on any of them but honestly I'm not worried.

STANDOUTS:

Denis Grebeshkov
This guy just keeps getting better and better. 2 point night, tonight. He's proven how coachable he is and he's shown flashes of his full potential and I'm really excited about this guy's future with us.

THINGS THAT WERE REALLY BAD:

We really need to do something about faceoffs. We won 28% and that is going to hurt us for sure as the season goes on. I don't care what we have to do- I hear Yanic Perreault is still available...
