Extreme Makeover Home Edition
In all the shows on television I think that there is no other that does what Christ wants His followers to do then this one show. I mean even Christian channels shows do not come even close to touching as many lives as this one show does. Yeah I do know that this show is driven by corporate America and the only reason most of these companies give away thousands of dollars to this show is because it is great Public relations for them. I mean I work for one the shows main sponsors and I get a lot of “I saw this on that home makeover show”. Seriously though isn’t this show doing what Jesus did and told us to do, to love each other no matter what. It blows my mind that some writers somewhere created a show that does what Jesus wants us to do, but we Christians sometimes act like we are to good to even think about doing something like this. It’s really sad to me that a show like this was not created by a church or a Christian organization, because it’s pretty obvious to me that it is what Jesus wants. I sometimes wonder about the state of the Christian world and it makes me very sad, for instance I was lucky enough to go see Donald Miller speak in Atlanta at a conference and he talked about how we have created everything to be Christian. We have Christian bookstores, shirts, bumper stickers, poker chips, fast food, etc… Why is it that we feel the need to separate ourselves from non-Christians in everything we do, next thing you know we will have Christian toilet paper. I see this happening in my life as in that as I will be living on campus next semester my parents are very much wanting me to live with a Christian and really I’m not sure if I really want to live with a Christian. I want to live with someone that I have to be on top of my walk with Christ around all the time and prove to them that Christianity is about loving people and not about following a billion rules and being a prude, which unfortunately is what everyone thinks of when they think of a Christian. If I’m not mistaken I believe that Jesus taught/lived by example in that he did not just hang out with his disciples but hung out with everyone no matter how “unclean” they were. I’m scared that we will one day live in a Christian world that only talks and does business with other Christians. Jesus came to heal the sick, wounded, depressed, hurt and hated. He did not come to help the ones that were already healed by his love but the one’s searching to fill that void that only He can heal. My prayer is that the Christian community will become more loving and we will get back to what I believe is the one basic idea in following Christ and that is to love no matter what.
