Mar. 9th, Writing Journal exercise.

Prompt: Write about a secret revealed.
Tool: Lily (Evans) Potter

I'm not actually a big fan of the pairing, but I am really quite fond of this.

Title:

“We all have secrets, Lily.”

She smiled wryly at her best friend. “Maybe, but this is different.” She took his hand placing something in the palm. “I wish I could explain it to you.”

In his palm was a single thick sheet of cardstock folded once. He turned it over. It was ivory with flowing golden script. It was a wedding invitation. “You’re marrying him.” The words were flat. She had expected angry, been prepared for it. She hadn’t been prepared for this finality, the closed-off expression that told her more than the words ever could. He wouldn’t fight her, even without a reason.

“Nobody must know why.” She had to tell him. If he’d asked, she would have kept it from him. “Divination isn’t quite the fool’s art that you’ve always believed it to be.”

The other man snorted, “Foolish enough.”

“I saw something, a child. He has to be born and it’s James’ face I see in his.” She reaches for his hand, but he pulls it back. She turns sadly away. “I do care for him. I know you can’t understand that, but he’s a better man than you can see. Our child will be something special. I know it.”

“I believe you do. Nobody will ever hear this from my lips. I’m leaving tonight. I’d been hoping to stay here, with you, but I can’t do that now.”

“No! Don’t go to him. This changes so little.”

When she reached for his hand this time he took it. “It changes everything and nothing. I never belonged in this world, Lily. I never wanted this. I only wanted you.”
