Ok guys...especially all you ethics lovers out there...here is the situation. Consider the following case:
You are an honored visitor to a remote tribe of peoples. In honor of your visit, the chief is going to allow you to shoot and kill 1 innocent member of the tribe instead of his usual practice of killing 10 innocent members of the tribe. There are 11 tribal members in front of you and if you do not kill one of them, then the chief is going to kill 10 of them. If you do kill one, then the other 10 will be released. Imagine that all 11 people have families of the same size. You have only 2 choices: (a) kill one innocent person or (b) let 10 innocent people be killed.
There is no way to kung fu your way out, or add any other variables to this case. What do you do? Which one would maximize the least amount of pain? Think about killing vs. letting die, think about future generations? or should you not shoot that 1 person because those 10 other tribal members are going to die in the future since this is a ritual? Discuss.
