Hold this thread as I walk away.

I had a really nice time on my trip up north last week. I thought it was going to be stressful, since I only had two and a half days, but as it turned out, it really helped that it was during the week when most people have to work. There was time to see friends and family when they weren't working, but I had a lot more spare time to myself, so I was able to relax and do my own thing and it felt a lot more like a vacation than usual.

I like to call ahead before visiting my grandma. Her line was busy when I tried, so I decided to just drop in, but as I was driving through her neighborhood I chickened out. >.> So I kept going up the hill to see where the road goes. When I was a kid, my aunt and I would walk up there from Grandma's and go down a snowmobile trail to a park somewhere. It seemed like a lengthy hike, but now that I'm older I wonder how far it really was. I thought about going for a walk down there myself, but when I got to the area, I discovered all the woods had been ripped up and huge new houses were being built. They're even building right up on the cliff, in areas I thought were safe from development. The snowmobile trail is still there, but now it has to go right through the middle of a fancy neighborhood. Ugh. It was so depressing.

It was a nice day, though, and the lake was all shiny and sparkly at the bottom of the hill. After the unexpected brush with suburbia I really wanted to go somewhere that never changes. So I headed down to Brighton Beach, right on the shore, and sat there until my mom called me.

One of these months, I want to do a 12 of 12 set that's all textures and closeups.

Someone had done a little chalk graffiti of the Aerial Lift Bridge.

The bridge is on the horizon, but you can't see it in this picture.

If I could get a house where I could hear the waves from my bedroom window, I would be so happy.

Thank God for Canada, or who knows how much water we might've lost to the western desert.
