But Could You?

I blurred at once the chart of trite routine
by splashing paint with one swift motion.
I showed upon a plate of brawny glutin
the slanting cheekbones of the ocean
Upon the scales of tinny fishes
new lips summoned, though yet mute.
But could you
                   play
                          right to the finish
a nocturne on a drainpipe flute?

So, it's the first Mayakovsky's poem. I think everybody must check his works out! The greatest web site dedicated to Mayakovsky - there you'll find poems, plays, even mp3s (!) both on English and Russian. Mayakovsky is one of my favourite poets, I've read his poems since i was a child. Besides, he was working with Rodchenko - my favourite Russian artist and photographer. I think everybody knows now the famous Mayakovsky|Rodchenko posters - Rodchenko drew, Mayakovsky wrote the propaganda verses. (And one band boldly throw the Mayakovsky's verses out, keep Rodchenko art and put there their name, franz plagiarism? :-)

anyway, the second exit from the Mayakovskaya station at underground has quotes from his poems... So come to moscow and check all these things out!

а теперь специально для Жени: вот фотографии, чтобы представить, как это все выглядит...хочу сказать. что все выглядит очень современным..не знаю, хорошо это или плохо. На второй фотографии можно увидеть кусочек "прочел..."
