Seeking Death...

Hermes left Olympus and the annoying creature that was Strife with little more thought wasted upon either. His focus was on other things are the moment, on other deities.

He ran hands through his messy hair as he appeared in the underworld, not careing to freshen his appearance up for once. With each step he took, pain jolted up his leg and side, causing him to all but drag a leg through the mud and rocks.

It seemed darker than usual. Quieter.

"Thanatos?" Hermes called out, feeling the wrongness of it all more vividly in the darkness that whisered of death and decay.

The passing of Hades was...unacceptable in his mind. No. It...No. The King of the Dead had too many people relaying upon him, needing him. It was possibly the second worse day in his life...the first being the night that Zeus had disappeared, without trace...

This wasn't the way kings among the gods were supposed to act, or be. They were supposed to be beyond reproach, beyond the faults of others...

Of course, that wasn't true really...Zeus was flawed with cracks that ran deep, so very deep. At a distance he's form looked complete, whole...dazzaling...but up close...up close he was a cracked figure.

Hermes choose not to see the cracks. He choose not to see those cracks in so many of his fellow gods, in those he held to the highest standards, and simply looked aside when horrid acts where committed.

Death was hard to look past, however. Death wasn't a crack he could ignore, and after lifetimes upon lifetimes...after all the time spent in the shadows of two kings, happy to serve and content to be paid with knowledge...Hermes was rocked to the core with utter confusion...and a feeling of true betrayal.

Kings.didn't.just.leave.

Not when he was going to plead to Zeus for mercy on their behalf. Not when he was going to hold Sephy's hand, and risk the anger of his own King...

Not when he'd learned so much from a god, and admired him so wholly...

"Thanatos..." he called again, a flame of temper lacing through his voice.

hermes, thanatos
