Summoning Panic

Once she knew morning had broken over Olympus, Ate materialized in a small diner in boston, one she knew she'd seen her cousin in before. It was interesting, the way she moved in and out of diners... no one ever questioned her appearance behind the counter, no one ever thought it odd that she worked there extremely sporadically (she hadn't been in ( Read more... )

Phobos awoke in the grip of a mild craving for pancakes. Styx still lay heavily against his side, curled into the shadow of the wall because he'd forgot to recreate the ceiling after last night's debauch under the stars. He gazed at the empyrean sky for a few moments, but the craving just got worse. And now he wanted coffee too.

Unwilling to give up what might well be his last intimate moments with the River Goddess, Phobos bilocated instead, forming his second corpus in Boston. Chinos, polo, docksiders and a braided leather belt were all the camoflage a God could need this close to the Harvard campus, but Phobos added a cel phone, and told it to ring if/when Styx awoke.

Then he walked into the diner. It had been one of his favorites back during his early Astrophysics days in the 70's, and he particularly remembered the syrup they served here.

Sitting at the bar, he tucked his sunglasses up onto his head, and smiled at the waitress...

Oh.

It's been a while since you were in here...

She just smiled at him and poured him a cup of coffee, pulling a pencil from behind her ear and reaching for a pad she kept in her pocket. She never had been one for uniforms of any sort.

He blinked. Did people really not notice that she hadn't changed in thirty years? Then he dusted off that camoflage grin and shrugged. "Er, yeah. Telecommuting policy got cancelled, so I'm an office monkey now. How about the usual?" he asked, knowing she'd remember what that was.

Of course... Just give me a few minutes.

She didn't bother putting anything on the pad, letting it disappear into her pocket again. She turned towards the back. The nice thing with breakfast was it really didn't take that long... It was about 7 minutes before she returned with a stack on pancakes, eggs, sausage, and a side of hash browns, slding them all in front of him with a bottle of catsup. She let him eat for a minutes, then leaned lightly against the counter across from him.
