Gathering (Pt. XIV..)
The background music had changed from the always-welcomed Frank Sinatra to something a little darker, more suited to the Underworlders. Though he could certainly play a piano accompaniment to it, even with its darkness, he didn't feel like pressing the music.
He stood from the grand with a satisfied sigh, and turned toward the party, searching out Nyx.
She was surrounded, even still, with her family members and guests. He wanted to go to her and be with her, but he truly felt as if he were intruding. Rubbing a hand through his hair, he let his eyes wander through the crowd. There were an awful lot of visitors that he didn't know personally. But where was his friend, Circe?
He scanned the crowd again. No.. No, she wasn't here. He slipped away from the party, standing on the brink of the circle of light, and looking out into the darkness.
Very quietly, he called:
"Circe?"
Behind him, the party raged on.
