RyoDa: Chocolate-Coloured Crows

“It’s way too cold. Too fucking cold. Why am I even out here?” he grumbles to himself, gripping his coffee tightly with frozen, stinging fingers. What was he doing here again? Oh, going to work. Why was he so early? Oh yeah, becaue he’d wanted time to sit down with his lyrics before-

“Cool…” he stares at the crow sailing over his head, to alight on a lamppost The early-morning sun, dyed orange-gold by the coming winter, colours his sleek plumage a glowing chocolate brown and the passing thought that maybe all ravens should be such a pretty colour crosses his mind. He stops and stares at the bird for a moment, then looks to what he can see of the sunrise through the cityscape. An almost greenish-blue convas sky supports vivid spatters of blush and cotton-like dabbling of mauve, lilac, cherry-blossom pink and palest gold above him and he thinks that maybe getting up so ridiculously early isn’t that bad after all.

“Tatsuya!”

The crow on the lamppost is startled and flees, and Tatsuya’s head snaps to his left in an almost panicked reflex, but then he spots the newcomer and his face melts into a smile. “Ryo! What’re you doing here?” though he’s hurrying over to Ryo, he glances to the chocolate-coloured bird gliding away. When he looks back to Ryo with is stylishly dishevelled ebony hair, he picks at a piece with a fond, funny smile.

“I just came to pick up some files and thought I’d say ‘hi’…” Ryo explains, and gives Tatsuya a weird look. “Hime? What’re you doing?”

“Maybe I like them black after all…”

“…What?”

Tatsuya shakes his head, still smiling goofily, much to Ryo’s confusion. “Nothing! Here, take my coffee for me? My hands are freezing!”

“You’re weird in the morning,” Ryo laughs, taking the drink. “I can’t believe your hands are so cold already. Remind me to get you mitts later.”

“I’m perfectly capable of buying mitts for myself, thank you.”

“Capable of buying then, yes. But not remembering to buy them, and that’s the trouble. Hey, isn’t the sunrise pretty this morning?”

Tatsuya doesn’t even blink at the abrupt chance. “Yes, yes it is.”

JunDa: Ducks in a Parking Lot

“It sure has been raining a lot, hasn’t it?”

“Huh? Not more than usual for this time of year…”

“Really? Maybe it’s just because summer was so dry… woah! Uepi! Look!”

“What? Woah! The whole thing is flooded!”

Junnosuke laughs and points. “Hey look, there are ducks swimming in it!”

The two stop and stare for a while as a pair of ducks paddle lazily in a giant pond-like puddle in a parking lot.

“I wonder who settled the ground here for building,” Tatsuya says. “The guy should be fired. That must be half a foot of water in the middle!”

Junno snaps a photo of the ducks swimming near someone’s car’s tires with a funny smile on his face. “Makes for a good story though, right?”

Tatsuya laughs. “Yeah, I guess it does.”

RyoDa: Kittens in the Hood

“But, I thought you were supposed to film it this week?”

Ryo sighs, staring out the window of the coffee-shop. “Yeah, I know. But now it’s next week, and I was supposed to have that day off!”

“Ehh…” Tatsuya sips his coffee, checks his phone. “Damn, I’ve only got a few more minutes.”

“You can stay a while longer,” Ryo insists. “At least stay ‘til you’re done your coffee?”

Tatsuya smiles a little wistfully. “Okay.”

Ryo grins back, and glances out the window as a girl rides by on her bike, and- “Hey! Look! Quick!” he points.

“What? Haha! Is that a kitten?” he tilts his head to get a better look and the little calico kitten tucks its head back into the girl’s sweater’s hood. “Wow… now there’s something I’ve never seen before,” he laughs as the girl disappears from sight.

“I’m surprised she’s not afraid the little guy’ll fall out,” Ryo says, taking a sip of his coffee.

“Ryo!”

“What? It could happen.”

Tatsuya shakes his head.
