It was a close race in the polling, but the SUMMERTIME theme won out. So in honor of all of you authors who finished Big Bang stories and all of you artists who chose one from the bunch yesterday, and also in honor of my seventh straight day of posting, I GIVE YOU:

It was the first day that felt like summer after a long cold spring, the playground was full of kids and their squeals and laughters. Sadly, little Josh just moved here and didn't know anybody yet, so uncle Jared had to play football, then tag, with him. That was, until another little boy got sucked in their game of tag and started running after them. Jared saw his out then and there, and stepped out of the game at a strategic point, when the boys were chasing each other up and down a slide. He retreated to a patch of the sun under an oak, pulled out his cell phone to give his paper due coming Monday a last read through.
Then someone talking very loud and stern got his attention, he looked around, and saw a tall and squarish woman telling Josh and the boy he was playing with off. The two boys sat at the bottom of the slide, looking up at her with big sad eyes. He felt his hackle rise, and walked over briskly, stuffing his phone back into his pocket. When he got there, he heard the woman was telling the boys not to climb up but slide down, and that was how you should play it! Jared deflated a little, because, she did have a good point, but did she have to be so mean?!
"Sheeth, does she have to be so mean?" a guy echoed his sentiment nearby.
"Yeah! They are just little boys!" Jared agreed wholeheartedly. He turned to greet the guy, and was instantly crushed by the unfairness of the universe. Because the guy was everything he had dreamt about in a boyfriend; he was tall and muscular, extremely handsome, wore a pair of glasses; more than that, he had an air of relaxed dignity that just screamed at Jared. And of course he had a boy.
The guy smiled a little at him, and Jared blushed, asked: "Hey, how old is yours?" pointing discreetly to the boy who was playing with Josh.
"Ah, Andy is four and half."
"Ohhhh, is he enrolled in the school already? Josh turned five this March, and he is going to go to kindergarten coming September." Jared asked immediately. His brother enrolled Josh at the local public school, and Josh had been saying that he didn't want to go because he didn't have friends in the new school.
"Which one?"
"The one right around the corner." Jared elaborated his problem, "the thing is that Josh is new here, and you know, kids playing here grow up together, it's hard for Josh to, erh, play with them."
"It's the same for Andy! He has been here for, what, only 3 weeks. The problem is that he wants to play with everybody, but they don't want to play with him!"
They looked at each other and came to the same conclusion at the same time.
"Maybe we can play date?"
Before they could pull their phones out and exchange numbers, though, the boys rushed over and yelled at the top of their lungs that they wanted to go on the swing.
Jared smiled indulgently at Josh, watched the boys run toward the swing, followed leisurely with the other guy. The short walk to the swing felt nice and intimate, and Jared rued his unfortunate tendency of crushing on straight guys.
After the boys were seated and swung, he pulled out his phone and asked the guy, "so, uhm, do we still want to do play date?"
The guy nodded immediately, "yes, of course, playdate. Here is my sister's number, I don't think she'd mind."
Jared was confused: "Your sister?"
"Errh, yeah, Andy's mother, she had to do some contractor thing with her husband in their house."
"Oh, that's great!" Jared blurted out, and proceed to blush furiously, reminding himself that just because the guy was not the father, doesn't mean he was gay and interested, "I will leave my brother's number with you."
"Oh...." there was a significant pause on the guy's side, "so, he is not yours."
"Oh, no, as much as I love that little guy over there, I'm so happy that I can return him to his rightful owner at the end of the day."
"Well, in that case, I'm Jensen, can I, maybe, have your number?" Jensen looked at him, green eyes sparkling behind the glasses.
"Absolutely." Jared answered, with a huge grin on his face.
