Behind The Times

This is the curse of living in Australia.

This weekend, my flist exploded with news of the Doctor Who season finale... and last night I got to see the first episode of season 4.

Everyone is busily discussing whatever it was that happened, and I'm off in a corner wondering what Donna's going to be like as a companion, and why Rose did that fadey thing ( Read more... )

Pssst. Bittorrent is your friend. And if your Oz ISP is too sucky for that, foreign friends who can send you dvds in the mail are also your friend ;-)

Yeah... the problem for me is,
a) my computer is really sucky at playing anything visual (the screen goes almost black when they're not in full light)
b) my bandwidth is insanely bad, and goes at snail's pace for weeks after doing anything difficult
c) I have no computer skills, and couldn't torrent anything to save my life...

Add it all up, and I'm pretty much stuck waiting for tv.

What about Youtube? The screen is still a problem (I had one like that, too), but it won't eat up your bandwidth and it's simple enough.

Actually, with my bandwidth issues, it will.

Maybe "bandwidth" isn't the correct term... I'm not all that computer literate.
All I know is that if I look at lots of photos or YouTube clips, my entire internet slows down - so much that loading my flist suddenly takes over ten minutes. These days I just avoid all internet videos when I'm on my home computer. And I don't think my boss would really be thrilled about me watching entire episodes at work...

Yes. The way to get it is to find a computer-literate friend, and convince them to get it for you on dvd off bittorrent.

That seems to be the general consensus, yes...

I'm in the same position re: BSG, if it helps.
