7 year old Mez and her leet writing skillz

May 13, 2010 06:56

So, here's the first piece of writing I still have. I think I was 7 at the time.

It is presented, spelling mistakes all intact, for your interest and amusement.

Please note: I was heavily influenced by Enid Blyton and the Narnia books. And "Julio" is not Hispanic - it's pronounced in a similar fashion to "Juliet".

Also, I only got halfway through. This is my first ever WIP, and if you want a conclusion, you'll be waiting a very long time...

TAERIES.

Opening...

It was nearing the end of Twilight Time in the Valley, when a human child first entered the land of Taeries.
Susie was about ten years old, and had seen many strange things, but she was still very surprised (as you can imagine), when she crawled into the hollow of an English park Oak tree, and found a door at the bottom.
And now she was in this curious place; a silent place, with ferns and oak trees growing all around, with nothing else in sight except a bubbling spring, running through the trees.
There was no grass on the forest floor, only soft velvety moss that looked reasonably comfortable. Susie's legs were beginning to ache, so she sat down in a patch of daisies.
Just then, out of the spring rose a girl, dressed in a light flowery dress, with a sash 'round the middle. She came over to Susie and said, "Hello. What are you doing up when it's nearly Sleeping Hour?"
"What's Sleeping Hour?" stammered Susie. "And who are you anyway?"
"I'm Athia," explained the girl. "And I thought everyone knew what Sleeping Hour was. Now, who, or to put it another way, what are you?"
"I'm Susie." said Susie, "By the way, have you got anything to eat?"
"Sure," smiled Athia. "Come on!" and they started through the wood, holding hands.

TAERIES.
Chapter One...

"Wake up sleepy head, Evening Sky started ages ago."
Susie opened her eyes sleepily and turned to look at Athia. "What do you mean by Evening Sky?"
Athia sighed. "It comes in that order every day, Morning Sky, Weeping Hour, Dele, Waiting Hour, Twilight Time, Sleeping hour, Evening sky, Witching Hour."
Susie sat up. "What did you mean when you said 'Or to put it another way, what are you?'"
"Well..." Athia considered, "I s'pose I meant, what nationality."
"Oh!" exclaimed Susie. "Well, I'm English."
"Never heard of it," Athia called over her shoulder, calmly picking berries off one of the cave walls. "What would you like to eat?"
"Some porridge, no, a boiled egg, yes, a boiled egg please."
Athia turned and stared at Susie, her mouth wide open. "You... you... are you HUMAN?"
Susie was taken aback. "Yes. Aren't you?"
"No, I'm a Taery."
Susie wrinkled her nose in confusion. "What are um, Taeries?"
"Taeries are Taeries. It's the same as me asking what Humans are. Taeries are Taeries and Humans are Humans." replied Athia matter-of-factly. "Anyway, since Humans obviously don't eat the same as us Taeries, we had better go and see one of the Winged Centaurs."
"One of the what?"
"Winged Centaurs. You know, half man, half horse? We have Mermaids here too."
"Okay, let's go and see them."sighed Susie, going over to the fern that hid outside from sight and pulling it back. "Hey, you live next to a waterfall! I didn't see that when we came in."
"That's because we didn't come in that way." Athia stood next to Susie and clapped her hands three times. Instantly two insects that looked a bit like tiny cicadas appeared. They had large wings that were coloured a bit like Athia's dress. Susie took all this in in a moment, the next second the insects had attached themselves to the girls' backs. Athia rose slowly up into the air. "C'mon." she directed sternly, "Just think 'fly.'"
Susie thought fly a million times, but she didn't really believe she could. Suddenly, just as she was giving up, she remembered one of the books from our world.
"Of course! Peter pan said that Wendy had to believe she could fly!" Suddenly Susie rose up into the air without really knowing she was.
"Very good." encouraged Athia, "Now, come with me." Susie suddenly realised that they were flying high above the trees already, and they were getting higher! She could see the whole land spread out below them now, and Susie realised that there was something bobbing up and down on the horizon, about a thousand kilometres away, but although they were heading towards it all the time, it didn't seem to be getting any nearer. Suddenly, Athia flew downwards, and Susie had to act quickly to follow. "Pay attention." she scolded herself.
Athia landed on soft ground, with Susie coming quickly after her. "Julio's house is that way." she said, pointing, after they had both got their breath back. "It's a bit of a walk, but I think we can make it." Susie agreed, and they hurried off through the woods, Athia eating berries as they went.
"By the way Athia, you never did tell me, why are we going to this Centaur person's house anyway?"
"Julio knows a lot about humans. Maybe he can get you something to eat."
"Athia, I know this changes the subject completely, but how did you know about nationality, when you have never seen a human in your life?!"
Athia sounded hurt. "Fairies have nationalities too you know. We may not live in different countries, just different worlds, but we still have them."
"So that's what you are! You're a fairy! I knew there was something familiar about those wing thingys- what did you call them again?"
Athia giggled. "Wing thingys indeed! Those happen to be very distinguished Flutteries!"
"Flutteries! That's the right name for them all right! Mine wouldn't keep still."
"They're not s'pose to - if you want to fly, and isn't that what they're for?"
"I dunno. You can't even take a good joke here. By the way, we seem to have come to a house. Are we there, or do you want it moved out of the way, your highness?"
They certainly were there. In the midst of Athia and Susie's joking, they had come to a house, or should it be called a cottage? Now, as Athia was chasing Susie round the house, trying to pay her back, the door opened slightly, and a distinguished face looked out, knocking Susie over as he did so.
"Good heavens young girl! You shouldn't go getting knocked over like that. You'll get your dress dir...Goodness gracious! What are you wearing that for?" He certainly had reason to be surprised. While Athia wore bright, crystal rainbow coloured clothes and no shoes, Susie wore a white blouse, a grey pinafore down to her shins, and tall grey shoes. Plus, her hair was in a braid, mucked up from an hours sleep. The man looked very relieved when Athia came round the corner, looking astonished. "Oh Athia, so you know this girl. Will you kindly tell me why she is wearing such unusual clothes?" The man stepped round the door and held it open. Susie gasped. Julio (for it was obviously him), was man down to his waist, and then he was horse. It was one thing to read about them in books, but quite another to see them for real. Plus, this Centaur had wings, huge wings, at least three times the size of eagles. It was fascinating.
Athia and Susie followed Julio into the house, but it took a long time, as he had to stop every few minutes to fold his wings down. When at last they were in, Julio took Athia aside for a whispered conversation. The Centaur seemed very worried and anxious, and Susie didn't want to disturb him more, although she was very anxious to know what all the fuss was about. Instead, she just looked at the portraits and paintings on the walls until they were done.
Julio came over to Susie and cleared his throat. "It appears young girl, that you are what you would call a human?" he seemed to recite in ringing tones. Susie nodded. "Well then now, how about that!" Julio dropped his glasses in amazement. "Oh dear! Would you please pick them up?" Susie nodded again. "Don't do that child, you look like your neck is a spring. Thankyou. That's the problem with being a Centaur, you can never pick things up unless you either sit down (and I fall asleep when I do that), or fly upside down with my wings folded (Which is very difficult by the way). But you didn't come here to have a history lesson did you? You came to...Oh Sirian, Sirian, Sirian! Get off my back!" The Centaur dropped his glasses again and pulled something off his back, which he handed to Athia. "Oh I've dropped my glasses again! Oh don't bother to pick them up for me Susie, I can." Julio knelt down and immediately started to fall asleep. "That reminds me, I did have some useful books on the s..."
"Who's Sirian?" asked Susie. Athia came over with an object that looked like a tiny mouse. Indeed, it was only one centimetre high, and one and a half long, but it certainly was a mouse. Sirian squeaked twice in a very shrill voice. Instantly, but a little bit shyly at first, some little mice crawled over to Athia and squeaked in her ear. "These are Sirian, Marterphor, Ychetti, Cpoce, and Betloe." said Athia, "They are Mittypools."
Julio shook his head and woke up. "Oh, so you called in the Mittypools did you? Susie did you read those books?"
"No Julio, you never told us where they were." came Athia's impatient voice. "How are we supposed to read books if we don't know where they are? And I can't even read. No Taery can."
"Of course my dear, I forgot."
"But Julio," said Susie frowning, "how come you can read then?"
Julio frowned, and then had to move quickly to catch his glasses. "I am not fully Taery dear, my ancestors come from Lair - what the earth was called when it was new. Anyway, according to most, there is no way to get to earth, but since you managed to get in, I agree that there must be someway out as well. There always is. We could arrange for you to meet some people that have some knowledge about entrances and exits unknown to others in the land. You might even meet some of your own kind. Meanwhile, I suggest that you get settled in for a time."
"Thankyou Julio, thankyou!" Susie nearly shouted with delight. Then she quickly gathered up the books and continued on her way, with Athia chattering to her nonstop. When Julio finally gathered up enough courage to say in a small voice "For heavens sake child, don't blast my ear of.", he found himself in an empty room, with only Ychetti and Cpoce scampering round the floor.
Julio settled himself down in a Centaur designed chair especially for Centaurs. "These young people." he muttered. "Never sastisfied with wholesome living." Resting his head on the papers he had been working on, he dozed off into yet another peaceful sleep.

TAERIES.
Chapter Two...

"Athia, apart from you and Julio and those little mice, how many others are there in this place?"
Athia considered. "Do you mean the whole island, or the part we take up?"
Susie was very surprised. "You mean there are other people on the island apart from the Taeries?"
"Oh yes," Athia assured her, "There are the other fairies, and the elves, and the pixies, and the Centaurs have a bit of their own, and then there are the woodpeople -who live most like humans live I gather - , and there are the flower fairies, and the mermaids, and the lilyes."
Susie snickered. "I don't really think the mermaids live on the island." she pointed out. "And I'd like to know what people you know in individual groups."
"Well there are the cousins of Julio, they are Seplo and Krahn, and Kagna, and Kajawe and Kasnappe the 'where wolves', and Daphne and her friends, and Rosebud, and Dewdrop..."
"Did you say were wolves?" interuppted Susie.
"W-H-E-R-E wolves." said Athia. "They are only visible at their noses, tails, and ears. Oh, and their footprints."
