Found this... um... somewhere? On LJ maybe?
Keyboard or [insert various local names for pen-type implements]
Absolutely, always, pen and paper. I can't think when it's on computer.
Of course, often I'll end up writing a whole lot of different lines of story in the most random order, and then moving them all round and round in Word until I find an order that works, but hey, it's still all on paper first.
Beta or no beta?
Both of those.
Most of my stuff has no beta - mostly because I'm far too impatient and desperately wanting to post everything right now - but the longer ones sometimes do. The incredibly brilliant
dreamincolor has done lots of betaing for my stuff, and always makes suggestions that leave me wondering how on earth I missed all of that...
Plot?
Hey, I'm a gen writer. Plot is my lifeblood.
On the other hand, a surprising number of my stories are actually
plotless fics in disguise.
Title?
It depends.
Glowy Green Things had a title right away,
Not The Way It Works only got a title after many long days of brainstorming, and
Shell Game had a title months before I actually thought of a story.
Generally, the ones that are easiest to write are like
Deep Into The Well, when I figure out the title about a third of the way in.
Smushy or smutty?
Neither, really...
Summary?
Oh, I hate these.
I do, though, absolutely love doing warnings and disclaimers. Mostly because I have pretty much nothing to warn for or disclaim, so I tend to end up with silly ones like "Doritos are not my comfort food.", or "Grenades, dubious business practices, a longing for ice-cream, graffiti, and far too many pastry-based nicknames.", or "Broken furniture is not a form of therapy approved by the American Psychological Association."
Funniest fic?
Hmm... I'd probably go with
New Strategy, but then everyone else would probably jump on me and insist that I say
Towels instead.
Most popular fic?
That'd be
Towels. No question.
Most fun to write?
I'd go with
Whitehat - which is surprising, because as well as being fun, it was also one of the hardest ones to write. It took ages.
Best and worst?
My best would be
Small Spaces. That one just worked.
My worst would probably be
After The Party. I've never really been happy with that one.
Coulda been contenders?
Ooh. Too many...
Let's go with
A Quiet Night In,
Glowy Green Things,
The Very Secret Diary Of Andrew Wells, and
Five Of Willow's Pets.
Strengths?
Dialogue. Drabbles. Buffy talking. OCs dying in silly ways.
Weaknesses?
Having plots that actually go somewhere. Descriptiveness. Anya, Gunn, and Tara.
Dirty little secrets?
- My head is full of the most raging Mary Sues in existence. So far, they haven't made it onto paper (thankfully).
- My own stories completely fascinate me. I have read them far too many times.
- Also, if you're reading a fic by me that's extremely silly, I was probably really depressed and annoyed at the world when I wrote it. Similarly, if I'm writing something dark and angsty, I'm probably grinning the entire time...
Hey, this was fun!
