I mean literally. (No pun intended.) Today the poem "This Is Just To Say" by William Carlos Williams actually happened in my life. First the poem, for those of you who don't know or remember it:
This Is Just To Say
by William Carlos Williams
I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox
and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast
Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold
It happened like this: my parents and I went out to dinner and needed to stop at the grocery store for some milk. We named off some produce and I found out that my dad ate the plums that I had bought only two days earlier. Instantly I thought of this poem and was vastly amused.
Then I bought more plums.
