“Connor! Are you feeding Rex again?”
Connor shoved his hands into his pockets and quickly adopted an expression of complete innocence.
“No.”
Abby clearly didn’t believe him.
“I think he’s putting on weight,” she said, peering closely at Rex.
“He looks fine to me,” Connor said.
Abby still seemed suspicious. “Just be careful what you give him,” she warned as she walked away.
Connor waited until she was out of earshot.
“Rex, mate, I think maybe we should cut down on the chocolate treats,” he whispered.
Rex nodded enthusiastically, as he licked the last of the incriminating evidence off Connor’s fingers.
