I've been reading them for a few years now, and I really enjoyed the early books, but *whisper it* I think they might have gone off the boil a bit in the last few books in the series.
Another Time Another Place is the 2021 book, and I bought it when it came out, but have only just read it in February this year. I also bought the 2022 book when it came out last year, but haven't read it at all yet.
I can't put my finger on it, but the latest books in the series don't seem to be as fun as the earlier ones. :-(
I'm completely up-to-date with the series, and was excited to see that the next one is coming out in June. However, you are right - the more recent books do seem to have leaned more towards 'serious' (for a given value of serious) plots and a certain amount of angst, which has got in the way of the fun a bit...
Glad to hear you've finally had your operation as well - hope the recovery wasn't too onerous!
The new one is out in June? I thought they normally brought a new one out in April?
It kind of feels like the early books in the series were mostly fun with some serious and angsty bits, but as they have gone on they've become more serious and ansgty with some fun bits. I preferred the early books ratio of fun to serious.
I've been meaning to do an lj post about the op for ages, but kept not getting round to it. It ended up being a bigger operation than they expected (they started out trying to do it keyhole and ended up having to open me up because it was just too complicated and too much stuff in there). It's never usually a good sign when a surgeon tells you that you were their most 'interesting' case of the day!
They first four or five weeks weren't great, but after that I've been gradually feeling much better, and now, after ten weeks off, I'm going back to work tomorrow on half days for the first couple of weeks. I'm mostly feeling ok at this stage, it's just stamina and energy that are a problem.
I don't think there's been a new one out since I basically devoured the series, so I have no idea when they're usually published!
Eek for having to go further than keyhole though. I was threatened with that possibility one time, if the keyhole didn't work out - but luckily it did!
Hope your reintroduction to work isn't proving too tiring *hugs*
Ooh, you're reading the Chronicles of St Mary's series! I adore those!
