2017 reading list

Jan 29, 2017 20:57

So, inspired by clea2011 and fififolle who are doing book reading bingo, and also cordeliadelayne who is aiming to read 100 books this year (100!?!), I've decided to make a record of what I'm reading in 2017. I've never done this before so have no previous 'stats' to compare it to, but I think it will be interesting to see just how much, and what, I read over the course of a year ( Read more... )

Hey, cool! I like the fact you are reading journals too. I need to do my first book post. That's what is holding up me starting a new book?!

I get a lot of magazines read in my lunch breaks at work. I get a full hour, which is nice for reading, but I've stopped reading fiction at work because you can almost guarantee that it will just get to an exciting bit when you have to stop. Magazines are a lot better for short burst reading in limited time slots because you can usually do an article or two in an hour, and it's not critical if you have to stop halfway through.

Lol! Do the post!

Aha! That explains it. I only get 30 minutes, but it means we leave a half hour earlier \o/
I have done my first book post! I can start my next book now, lol :p

Got your e-mail! Awesome. I should go and call them :D

I have read half a book! I'm nearly at my first square! You should do the bingo.

Half a book! \o/ Well, it's half a book more books than I've read so far this year! :-)

I did consider the bingo, but given that most of the books currently on my to-read pile are nearly all historical adventure fiction, or archaeology/ancient history non-fiction, I decided the bingo card with all it's variety would not actually be helpful in clearing the backlog!

It's half a book more than I read the whole of last year! *g*

Yay to reading!

And I'm enjoying the outrage my reading target has been generating. *g*

Lol! I just worked out, that's got to be an average of two books a week or something, isn't it? Hows it going? :-)

I took a train journey over to Birmingham today and started reading my first book of 2017 while I was travelling. Somewhat unexpectedly, the first book I really fancied out of my to-read pile was a non-fiction about ancient Rome (as opposed to the epic stack of books about ancient Greece which is theoretically supposed to be my favourite of the two!).

Heh, I've never actually worked it out, don't want to panic myself! I'm up to 8 as of today :D

I do that a lot, which is why this year I'm taking the next one off my to-read pile no matter what it is - some of them have been on the piles for years, I'll never make a dent in it otherwise!

8!?! I'm not sure whether to cheer or meep, lol! Go you!

That's probably a good idea with the to-read pile. I alternate between phases of reading fiction and non-fiction, and I very much seem to be in a non-fiction phase at the moment. Unfortunately, I know that if I try to force myself to read something I'm not really in the mood for, chances are I'll abandon it unfinished, so in an effort to actually *finish* books I'm going with whatever I'm in the mood for!

I remember you used to post a list at the end of the year of what you'd read.

I've been keeping track of what and how much I write for several years, but it's never occurred to me to do the same with reading until now.
