LJ!!!! TUMBLR!!! Assorted other things that I have been without for nearly a week!!!! *clings*
Okay, so basically, my laptop died last Sunday. I went out and bought a new one on Monday, but it's taken me until this evening to even get the new one out of the box (due to being ill on Tuesday, busy on Wednesday, and basically couldn't be bothered yesterday).
The bad news is my old one died rather suddenly and I may potentially have lost a lot of stuff (that'll teach me to backup more regularly). I still have some hope that it can either be repaired, or if not that PC World can do hard drive data transfer, but I'm not going to have time to take it to the shop until next week at this rate because I'm busy all weekend.
The new laptop is taking a bit of getting used to right now but I've only been on it for a couple of hours so I'm hoping I will get used to it soon. I'm still trying to get my head round the operating system -I've gone from Vista (yes, my old laptop was eight years old and running vista) to Windows 8, which is more than a little confusing.
I'm also still having issues with e-mail, so if anyone desperately needs to get in contact, if you know me well enough to have my number then txt may be the way forward. If not, lj message is your best bet (or, indeed, lj message for anything that isn't urgent, really).
On the plus side, once the initial panic passed, I was surprised to find that I found the week unexpectedly relaxing without having access to the internet. I got a load of reading done when I wasn't spending half the night refreshing tumblr every five minutes, and managed several pages of handwritten notes for what looks like it's going to be a long Atlantis fic. Once I've got Word and Office and everything installed I should probably start writing that. If I've got used to the feel of the new keyboard by then. Uuuugh, so much stuff to track down again and install. GIMP will need to be one of the ones I get to quite soon. And firefox, because I'd forgotten how annoying IE was.
