AN: Yet another drabble about Becker’s childhood. Still haven’t given them a series tag...



On Hilary’s twelfth birthday his parents gave him, among other things, a chocolate cake. It was huge, multi-layered, smothered in chocolate butter-cream and icing. Shop bought, of course, not home-made. Nothing but the best for their boy.

Like any little boy, he gorged himself gleefully, returning for slice after slice until bedtime.

The next day he felt sick at the thought of another piece.

His mother reminded him about the starving children in Africa. Waste was a sin. So was ungratefulness.

Hilary tried to smile as he forced the final mouthfuls down. He didn’t want to disappoint them, after all.
