It had been his brother’s idea to visit Bethlem Hospital on the Easter public holiday. While Edward laughed at the madmen, Thomas felt only horror at the sight of these poor, chained wretches. But then, Edward always said he was soft.
“This one claims to have seen the star of Our Lord appear in the forest,” their guide announced. “And what’s more, a dragon came from it!”
Thomas’ mind flashed back to the glowing light in the alleyway, and the claw marks on the fence.
Shivering, Thomas looked around at the walls of ‘Bedlam’, and kept his thoughts to himself.
