Ohgodohgodohgod ......... this is good! No, the torture scene wasn't gratuitous, but it was certainly painful to read and bloody well written. Poor Connor. I love the way his lie came out. Very well handled.

And yeay for Claudia and Lester!!!! So, WHO in goverment is going too far and what's going to happen next?? I love the fact that you've already said this is going to be a long fic, because that allows plenty of time to explore the plot and we know it isn't just going to be rushed along.

My only regret? That this isn't a novel I can just buy off the shelf and read all the way through in one go, NOW!! But hey, who says I'm impatient???

Great stuff ....... more, soon, please ?

I was getting quite worried about posting this chapter, because given the content I thought people wouldn't believe it in the context of the Primeval-verse, and that they wouldn't like it. I was trying really hard to make it about the psychological effects and fear, rather than gratuitous violence for the sake of it, and I just hope I've managed to stay the right side of the fine line between the two. So far your and Telperion's comments seem to be suggesting I did, which is a relief.

I just hope you're not going to be disappointed by the way the rest of the plot pans out, although, yes, current estimates still suggest it's going to be about ten chapters, plus epilogue. And I had a revalation the other day, and I know what the very last line of the entire series is going to be now *evil happy dance*

I'm certain there's no danger of disappointment, so you can lose that notion right now!! And you have certainly stayed the right side of the line IMHO. Not gratuitous at all.

Having a known last line to work to is great! *joins evil happy dance*

That's good, at least. I actually did loads of research for this chapter. I had a couple of books, but the best source turned out to be the net; Wikipedia ruled for this topic, and the Amnesty International website was also very useful (not really surprising, to be fair).

I don't think I ever quite imagined that writing fanfic would lead me to end up researching topics like that! Primeval fic was supposed to be fun dinosaur adventure, and occasional character/relationship angst, but dark plot themes sort of took over this series.

Amen to this! There seriously has been a lot of research going on in this fandom of late - I think we ahould all be proud of ourselves that we're willing to put so much effort into our writing! *grins* Although I suppose it was inevitable that someone would end up researching time paradoxes at some point (Wikipedia is a life-saver!) - but why did have to be me? My brain still hurts! Rock-climbing I didn't quite see coming, and the mini-research I've done for the current fic I'm writing is slightly surreal, but a lot more fun!

I don't think I ever actually did any research for the time paradox stuff, I just used several years worth of reading and watching sci-fi stuff (Connor would have been proud). Although once I'd sorted out what my theories were and how I thought it would work, I ran my ideas past a friend who did physics at university, just to make sure.

But yeah, a surprising amount of research going on given that fic is supposed to be for fun, as you keep pointing out.
