Yay, Michigan?

So, about where I'm living.  Tiny little town.  So tiny, in fact, that even with the very limited number and variation of people I've meet in the two weeks I've been here, I can't go out into town without seeing someone I know.  And I can't get lost.  I've tried.  It just doesn't happen.

There's one movie theater, a WalMart (of course), a Goodwill, Motel 8, two grocery stores (that I could find), a ton of farmland, and a rampant sprawling resort complex smack in the middle of this nowheresville.   Where they charge beyond exorbitant prices for the most ridiculous things.  Then there's "town," which is a very quaint, quirky businesses area built in probably a 4 x 4 block radius.  The buildings are all relatively old, positioned next to a grand old hotel, which is something like 100 years old, built when the boats and trains started coming into the area.  The shops are really kind of neat, but these are prices I expect never to take seriously.

There are also bicycle rickshaw drivers.  It's such a resort, touristy town, that the locals have a name for the non-locals, "fudgies," based on the belief that most out of towners used to come for some kind of famous fudge made up here.  As a non-local, I have been dubbed a "fudgie."  I had no idea there was even fudge up here.

The wildlife is pretty cool up where we're living.  Tons of tiny little birds, chipmunks, and black squirrels, all pretty friendly and brave.  They're kind of noisy in the mornings though.  And nights aren't nearly long enough that they shutup for a decent amount of time.  At 9:45pm you can still see the sun setting over the lake, and by 5am you're pretty much up unless your shades were drawn.

And it's still hovering around the 50's/60's temperature-wise.  One of the locals told me they were informed that we're in for another 90 days of cool weather.  So the entire time I'm here, all this beautiful clear blue water, and I'll be going no where near it...

And everyone sounds like they're being casted for Fargo.
