just to be in context, i rooted in 2000 for gore because he's honorable, and rooted for kerry because he's not named bush.
as much as everyone watched and waited for democratic presidential nominee barack obama's speech, i was quite anxious to monitor the republican national convention just in interest, but as well as to be fair to both sides.
apart from this, there was also an amount of interest in the gop convention since it was also marred by the arrival of hurricane gustav, which threatened new orleans, still recovering from katrina's devastation.
anyway, while watching cnn's coverage, i noticed 2 things about the crowd.
first, their "country first" banners and cards. i just can't imagine how this would inspire independents to both for them. isn't this what hitler was thinking about? america has to admit that they are the most relevant nation and government in the world. the banner isn't just sympathetic to other countries, many of which like ours, are widely influenced by america.
the other thing that i noticed is how extremely caucasian the crowd is. no hispanics, blacks, or asians. it was like a rally for the ku klux klan. how would they get the vote of other minorities if they don't even have a single member of those minorities in the crowd. are there really such in the gop? i'd like to believe so... but it's troubling.
plus, the amount of hypocrisy inside the gop is unfathomable. they are widely critical at obama's youth and inexperience, but they name a 44 year old female as their candidate for vice president in sarah palin. do they even know the concept of being discreet? obviously the selection is to get the women's vote, which revealed its strength during hillary clinton's attempt.
dl hughley put it best during his interview in larry king, bush is so bad at being president, that they're going to elect a black man to the office.
