things i love:
-bumping into friends on the corner of claremont and sherbrooke while waiting for your date to arrive who is even more late than you are
-killing time with another friend who is also in the area while she writes a term paper on feminism, she herslef being a self described chauvanist.
-bilboquet ice ceam. at first i wasnt a fan,,,,but its growing on me. and so is he {but still no spark}.
things i hate:
- evening faces. i was talking to eric talbot about this. about how you have to make contrived conversation with people out of politeness if you havent seen them in a while. the ubiquitous "hi how are you how have you been whats new what are you doing" type of shit that you dont actually care about. EXCEPT that eveningfaces are more people you see at night. in night clubs, bars and crowded bathrooms. where the music is loud and the lights are low and the senses are alive and the chattering is at an all time high. we dont mind the banter, even if it is forced and incinsere. because there is always the opportunity to pause and sip your gin until its done and then say "excuse me i need a refill". conversation ended, and acceptable too. not rude, its normal practice. besides, he or she wants to be out of the awkward "what do i ask next" dilema just as much as you do.
thereofre its really AFTERNOON FACES that i wish to avoid. the random bump ins on streets and sidewalks and cafes and shops where youre forced to play the interested aquaintance and painfully try and recall what program said person is graduating from or what friend you have in common. there is no gin to sip {to ease the conversation into ending}. you might be lucky and your venti tripple latte might be ready and so you can run off, or maybe "oh there's my bus". and you can say the whole "anyways gotta run but it was nice seeing you and goodluck with your ____ exam". so yes, it is not the evening face i loath, but the daytime one.
and tomorrow is the preachers son.
we shall see if ill be converted.
bright lights and evening faces
