I come walking into my internship, dressed completely professionally. I think nothing of the two 8-9 year old boys who are walking behind me. Until they start laughing. Then one of the boys says, "Hey you." I don't turn. He continues, "My friend wants to put it in your ass." Then, I turn. They're both giggling. I walk close to them and point my finger in their face and sternly say, "You do NOT talk to women like that ever. I don't ever want to hear that kind of that foul talk out of your mouth."
I felt so dirty. And it gets worse. My first thought is, Am I wearing something that would attract that kind of attention? No. The answer to that is no. I'm dressed in loose fitting pants and have on a suede jacked over a sweater.
Last week, I had a similar situation. I was walking in when this young teen, 12-13(?), says, "Bring that white ass back here." Gross. Not quite so bad, but still.
It's so scary to me for lots of reasons. First of all, 13 year old boys may have older brothers who might decide that I'm an easy target. Another reason is that there are probably some SERIOUSLY harassed 8 year old girls in their class if a boy is willing to talk like that to a grown woman.
