How perfectly lovely. It's nigh impossible after childhood sexual abuse to understand where the lines are, to make healthy affectionate gestures. You captured a bit of that here. Well done.

It was really important to me to portray that struggle for Rusty respectfully and honestly, I'm glad that you enjoyed the way I captured it.

Thanks so much for reading. :)

Aww, I love them both so much. ♥ ♥ ♥ So much sweetness, and I love that they just "get" each other so well.

And yeah, the conversation about Jack. This makes so much more sense than what we got in canon.

And I love that Sharon makes it clear he doesn't have to take care of her, and that she's there to take care of him.

Love the awkward hug. It's so wonderful and sweet. And I can just picture Sharon squeeing inwardly about it all day.

♥ ♥ ♥

One of the MANY things that I love so very much about them on screen as well. ♥

And I can just picture Sharon squeeing inwardly about it all day.

Of course she did! She got a hug from her third child! I totally think that she has a photo of her kids on her desk at work, and one of her and Rusty too. And I am sure that the greatest gift she could receive is to one day be able to have a photo of all FOUR of them on her desk. ♥

Thanks for reading! :D

Aww - this is so very sweet and just... so very them. I just love the scattered amounts of awkwardness and yet, the very obvious need they share to reach out to the other and offer all the comfort they can. I love the way you show the way Rusty cares and takes care of those he loves in the least obtrusive of ways (both harkening back and because of his history with his mom) - by basically paying attention and being aware; that love isn't always grand gestures or grand declarations (though those are also nice), but a lot of the time, most of the time actually, it's simply about being present for the person.

Thank you! I really wanted that sweetness and need for affection to shine through the bit of awkwardness.

Exactly!

Thanks for reading. :)

You are so very welcome!

that image of him putting the pillows back on the couch in just the right spot killed me.

I could just totally see him doing something like that. This is his first real home, this is his first real parent, I can see him desperately trying to keep everything exactly as it is because he loves Sharon and their home so very much, and he needs them so very much.

Happy, happy birthday once again! :D
