Oh...my....lord the pain!
So I can't remember...did I write on here that I have a herniated disc? Well I do. L5,S1 is alllll out of whack and THAT is what is causing the muscle spasms and the nerve pain. SO in order to get that fixed I had to get plain x-rays, and MRI and go see the Spine Surgeon to talk about my options.
Thankfully he said surgery was not really an option for me. With the exception of my slipped disc I had the "most beautiful spine I have ever seen". From someone who looks at spines all day (even sick ones) I took that as a high compliment. He then told me that 90%+ people who get this it heals on its own and he was pretty sure that was the case for me since my spine is so pretty and all. So his course of action was to have me get some injections to make the drive to Louisiana more comfortable and I was like "HOOORAY!".
So he jumps through hoops, bribes some people and is able to get me in to get my injections in LESS then 24 hours when the waiting period is usually 2 weeks (AMAZING!).
So I went and did that today. I thought it was going to be like the same injections I got from Urgent Care but stronger....oh no...I was wrong. I had to be put in the CT scanner so they could locate the correct position and then the needle the length of my arm was driven by machine INTO MY SPINE over and over. No one warned me it was going to be like this...and I didn't think to ask...silly me.
Apparently also due to my "excellent" back and my "strong muscles" it was more of a challenge to get the needle through the muscle and calcium to inject the stuff where it needed to be to block the nerve receptors or some such.
All I know was that even after triple the numbing medication I was gritting my teeth moaning like a baby and sweating like a pig while they struggled to get the needle oh so perfectly placed.
Now my back is so sore I am almost back on the floor in tears, but HEY the nerve pain is GONE.
That whole side of my leg is numb numb numb! It took me a few tries to re-learn to walk on my leg that suddenly felt gone but I am fine now and all the previous pain is gone. (YAAY!) I can actually sit and I think I will be fine to make the drive to Louisiana alone so my mom doesn't have to spend $300+ on a plane ticket home. I am betting this soreness will be gone in the morning *fingers crossed* and I swore to all my doctors (I acquired 4 for this particular injury) that I was going to be an avid pilates/yoga fan and NEVER have to go through any of this again.
Take care of your core people. I did this just from standing up from a chair and my Spine Guy says he has done this very same thing from picking up a roll of toilet paper. THOSE SPINES ARE PRECIOUS!
